RESEARCH ABSTRACT: I am interested in Polish history. Especially architecture.
It was a great pleasure working with the flat located in a historic building of Warsaw socialist realist district.
The building had been modernized with great attention to detail and maintaining its previous look. Interior design of the apartment was made compatible with the architecture of the entire building,
CHALLENGE: It was a challenge to renew 70 years old ruined interior with damaged installations and leaky windows, to make it corresponding to renovated building.
Searching the history and looking for related objects made the designing process more interesting.

NAME: Roland Stanczyk
PROFILE: That flat was designed as weekend, city home for the active woman. She is living about 25 kilometers from Warsaw but the city is their free time and culture destination.
Because of its centrum location the flat seems to be a good meeting point too. The district is full of restaurants and bars located in old renovated buildings.
There is one more important information. The Warsaw Faculty of Architecture (my alma mater) is 200 meters from that address.

As a design enthusiast, I am amazed by Roland Stanczyk's award-winning work - the Socialist District Apartment - which is a beautiful example of Interior Space and Exhibition Design. What I find particularly remarkable is the way that Roland Stanczyk has paid attention to the history and context of the building, drawing inspiration from the architecture and original interwar artdeco furniture. It is clear that a lot of research and care has gone into the design, with elements such as the built-in furniture in line with socialist realism details of the districts elevations, and paintings of famous Polish artists complimenting the interior design. This impressive attention to detail has resulted in a unique and timeless design, and it is no wonder it has been awarded the A' Design Award.

This award-winning work provides a unique insight into the architectural history of Warsaw with its socialist realism district. The interior space and exhibition design are beautifully crafted to pay homage to the original interwar artdeco furniture, and the use of original paintings from half of the twentieth century adds an extra layer of detail and appreciation. This project is a great example of how to blend history with modern design, and the results are truly stunning.
