| DESIGN NAME: Florasis Gold Filigree Love Lock PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lipstick INSPIRATION: The "Love Lock" in traditional Chinese culture served as the design's primary source of inspiration. The Love lock, a mythical Chinese treasure of the old moon, is said to contain the love energy of countless individuals. It implies that love is as valuable as gold and that it will last forever, sending wishes for love and good luck. We'll always be together, conected with locks of affection. Chinese-style romanticism is what Florasis Gold Filigree Couture Lock Lipstick is all about. The affection conveyed by the concentric lock endures the test of time thanks to the exquisite workmanship that has been handed down for thousands of years and the constant pure gold material. A charming token of love worthy of permanent collection, guarding the promise of an everlasting partnership and union. This high-end customized lock lipstick is Florasis brand's impression of Dai minority culture and inheritance in China. The detachable jewelry design form on the lipstick case of concentric lock comes from the cultural element of Dai peacock. The peacock is a symbol of auspiciousness, beauty and happiness in the eyes of the Dai people. The detachable brooch on the lipstick casing and the relief of the lipstick paste are designed in the form of peacock feathers and made with Chinese filigree techniques. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Florasis Gold Filigree Love Lock Lipstick can be used as a lipstick and worn as a piece of jewelry. The pure gold feather on the lid is a removable piece of jewelry, which can be worn as a brooch or as a pendant with a chain. This custom multipurpose lipstick can be used as a collectible. It fits contemporary people’s lifestyle and different usage scenarios. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This piece of design can be used as a lipstick. Press the button and the lipstick pops out. In addition to being used as a lipstick, it can also be worn as a piece of jewelry. The feather-shaped ornament on the lid is a removable piece of jewelry, which can be worn as a brooch or as a pendant with a chain. This design can be worn in multiple ways PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2021 and finished in January 2022 in China. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: This gold filigree Love Lock Lipstick is an ancient traditional Chinese handicraft. It is a gold processing technique used in ancient China's imperial court. Pure gold filaments as thin as 0.2mm are created. Stacking, piling, knitting, weaving, pinching, filling, assembling, and welding are then used to finish the filigree by hand. Mr. Yuan Changjun, a top Chinese filigree craftsman, created this piece. He has devoted himself to the filigree craft for over thirty years as a representative inheritor of the intangible heritage filigree craft. He holds the title of Beijing Municipal Master of Arts and Crafts. The lipstick's lid is made using modern 3D printing technology in addition to the gold filigree handicraft.It not only carries on the traditional filigree craft, but also innovates with modern technology. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 91.5mm x 42mm x 37mm TAGS: Lipstick, jewelry, necklace, brooch, gold filigree craft, Florasis RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The use of Chinese gold filigree in this work represents the inheritance and development of this traditional handicraft. This craft is used to make the feather-shaped brooch on the lipstick's lid. Furthermore, how to combine the filigree craft with 3D printing technology on the lipstick's lid has been researched, resulting in a more precise motif and ornament on the lipstick's lid's surface. The gold filigree lid has an openable structure to make it easier to get the lipstick in and out. The use of 3D printing technology also improves the precision of the lid's openable structure. In this work, we investigated how to inherit and carry forward the traditional Chinese handicraft of gold filigree, as well as how to combine it with modern technology, in order to fully exploit the unique advantages of both the traditional handicraft and modern technology. CHALLENGE: At present, there are only a few gold filigree craftsmen in China. We were fortunate to find a top-level craftsman and work with him to apply this traditional handicraft to the design of the lipstick and jewelry. In this work, the gold filaments are as thin as 0.2mm. The motif and ornament on the surface of the product are made with those gold filaments through techniques including stacking, piling, knitting, weaving, pinching, filling, assembling and welding. Such handicrafts are challenging and difficult to make.In addition, the combination of a lipstick with a piece of jewelry poses a challenge to the design of the structure. The structure has to be cleverly designed and hidden in the work without compromising its beauty. In the end, we decorated the necessary structure and made it into a beautiful decorative detail in the product. From the appearance, the structure and the product are perfectly integrated.
