| DESIGN NAME: SJ20 Dual Lens PRIMARY FUNCTION: Action Camera INSPIRATION: Single-lens action cameras have good performance at daytime while with poor image quality at nighttime. However, low light environment as a common life scenario shouldn’t be ignored, we want to provide users with better quality of night footage. Therefore, a powerful low light sensing lens is necessary. As an outdoor equipment, the battery life of action cameras is also worth consideration. Besides, it should be easy to use. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: SJ20 is the world's first modularized dual-lens action camera, weighing less than 150 g. The add-in second night shot lens with robust nighttime light sensing and capturing feature solves the pain point of failing to capture premium nighttime video and photos. It also supports the scalability of more than one module including modular batteries and accumulation mounting, which not only extends battery life, but also reduces burden in location shooting. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The camera can at least record 4K video for 1 hour and the add-in battery module supports the minimum extension of 3-hour shooting. With a powered selfie stick connected, SJ20 can work up to 10 hours. SJ20 can be quickly connected through Type-C cable to PC for uploading files, or to a cellphone via WiFi access. Downloading SJCAM Zone App permits one-touch file download and remote camera control. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project proceeded to the preliminary design phase in August 2022, prototyping will be completed in February 2023, and the project will be finalized in May 2023. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: SJ20 provides users with two lenses respectively for day and night recording.The second night shot lens comes with a standalone enhanced light sensing element, which can capture clear images even in dimming light condition. Users can switch different lenses to capture high quality images according to diverse environments. All operations can be done on the 2.0" LCD touch screen, which is as easy to use as a smartphone. The camera has a module interface on the side and can be connected to modules such as batteries and backets to extend the duration and improve recording forms. Its metal body alleviates the overheating problem caused by long hours of recording. CHALLENGE: From the time of project initiation and with the exterior design plan fixed, the greatest challenge we had is how to combine function with appearance. We tried out different combinations of chips, sensors and components in order to present the ideal product intended for our consumers.
