| DESIGN NAME: Carmel Hill PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence INSPIRATION: Homeowner wanted to bring 3 generations of her family, 2 kids, grandpa, homeowner and his wife, under one roof. He wanted to strike a balance between private and shared space, cater interest of everyone and style preference. Grandpa loves classic style while young generation loves vivid style. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: To strike the balance, designer pays special attention to the choice of colour and shape. First of all, he chose grey and white as dominant colour that stands for timeless. Also, designer chose sky blue and grey blue as complement, adding vibrant colour to the area. For the bedroom of daughter, though it is a bit different in terms of style, it sticks to white colour which is consistent with main colour. Secondly, designer added a slight touch of round elements to the area. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Round curve and lines represent fun and playful, so designer use the shape as a slight touch to each of the room, like round round corner of the shell in living room; round shape of ceiling in bedroom of son and master bedroom; and round arch in the attic, to make it a bit playful to the living space. Not only does the shape help, a touch of metal decoration throughout the space also highlight the classic style. Ultimately, the design is classic yet fun. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The main materials in this project are wood, metal and artistic wall coating. Using round shape in ceiling of each room and same colour scheme to create a cohesive design. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The area of this site is 1,957 square feet. TAGS: Interior, Residential House, Multigeneration, Classic yet vivid RESEARCH ABSTRACT: - CHALLENGE: One of the biggest challenge in sharing a house with multigeneration is how to strike a balance between private and shared spaces. Colour preferences vary as much as personalities. Designer has to create a cohesive flow throughout a home.
