DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
Sekonj Garden

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Urban Space Design

INSPIRATION:
Reviving the small remaining portion of lost garden was the goal of design and existing trees are the strong point of this space that inspires the path of thinking. Though the space layout and proposed new structure is completely based on the location of the trees. The new look at this piece of land left behind as an urban space and the point of presence prompted the designers to design various spaces for user interaction. Diverse spaces with linear and communal seating in different dimensions and even different heights for all ages to provide a contextual platform for increasing social interactions.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
In the past, there was interconnected gardens in project location, which large proportion of them has been disappeared because of constructing a roadway.Design site is a small portion of a remaining garden,in which its main axes and its old trees have remained yet.Design desire was to create a suitable place for social interactions and to maximize the quality of urban life in every moment of daily use.all the parts, made in the project workshop with hand-made techniques to make the project unique.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Considering the needs of space users is what has made this project achieve good results. Adhering to design standards, its diverse spaces and functions, along with good landscaping, has created an interactive space. Also, the use of familiar shapes such as old domes and native materials has helped to connect people more with the project. Increasing the level of green space, renewable local materials, using recycled materials and reducing project implementation costs through on-site construction techniques have led to a sustainable project.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in january 2019 in Iran,Shiraz city and finished in september 2019.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
The type of material used in this project is contextual. Red brick has been used the most and in various and creative ways starts from the floor comes on the seats and goes up the wall and forms a coherent and integrated design with the possibility of creative uses. This project including seating and lighting, are completely made in the project workshop with hand-made techniques and appropriate to the location and nature of the project, and no ready-made samples have been purchased which helps to make the project special.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
The main axis width 6m with the middle water path width.05m lead to a central circular space with 5m radius and a tree in the middle of the water basin. The central space is 80cm lower to define privacy. Difference in height has been solved with two platforms of 40cm height for sitting and 6 steps of 15cm height for easy access. Seats varying in length from 3m along the main paths to 12m length around the children's playground area. The children's playground is a contemporary design derived from the old domes, consisting of 7 soft continuous domes with different heights from 40cm to 80cm.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Design methods in this intervention based on using Jan Gehl approach from the survey of small urban areas. His research methods based on understanding the primary quality of urban places and feeding this information into architecture is what this project try to practice and improve through implementation. This method is designed to perform actual surveys of public space by human senses mostly through the eyes of the surveyor. This method has been deployed to improve the conditions of public spaces by transforming observations into design.

CHALLENGE:
One of the challenges in this design was the presence of old trees left over from the previous garden. All the trees have been preserved in the new design. Also, lack of irrigation conditions and the provision of water resources to revive the garden and preserve and maintain the trees and new vegetation that have been planted is another. Among the other design challenges, presence of a government employer were the restrictions on the use of special materials and costs. That is why we tried to create a creative and diverse design from local materials at the lowest cost.

NAME:
Point Architecture Group

PROFILE:
The point is the beginning and end of every path. The Point Architecture Group, consisting of three main members with expertise in architecture, landscape architecture, and urban design, came together five years ago to initiate the process of changing urban spaces in Iran. The re-explanation of the lost, abandoned and unused urban spaces as the hidden potentials of the city and design with a contextual and humanistic perspective is the focus of this group. The goal is to create attractive urban spaces with a human scale and an interactive approach for city people at a time in Iran, when human presence in urban environments is the least important, citizens are deprived of comfortable presence in urban spaces, cars are preferred to humans and human values are lost. An effort to restore the lively presence of citizens in the urban spaces; People whose presence is the meaning of urban life. Continuous efforts over the past few years have resulted in the design and implementation of more than 50 flagship projects with different scales in Shiraz and other cities. The successful feedback of the projects with the presence of people made this team more eager to try more and more to create a turning point in the way of looking at urban spaces in Iran resulted in obtaining seven national awards and one international award from the starting point of this path. It is hoped that one step forward will always be taken in this direction and the opportunity to create new experiences in the city will be possible for the people whom deserve more.
