DESIGN NAME: W Kid Foot Health Guardian
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Shoes
INSPIRATION: The design team draws inspiration from toddlers foot development needs. Babies will rub their feet and relax their toes when they are satisfied during suckling, which indicates their healthy development. The distinctive bionic foot shape shoes leave sufficient space for toes to move, and improve toe grip and spacial perception. Moreover, the differentiated toe caps meet the needs during their order sensitive period and help to improve their cognitive ability.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: W kid children shoes are specially designed for toddlers. The design team makes a profound study on the development features of children's feet, and comprehensively considers ergonomics, biomechanics, sports medicine, skin management and other factors, aiming to improve toddlers athletic ability and perception, and promote foot development.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The modular structured sole can hold up the corresponding foot bones when children learn to walk, which helps them to balance their gait, open the toes, enhance grip and plantar muscles and promote arch development. Meanwhile, the TPE protection frame at the side and heel can improve gait stability and prevent over pronation. The parallel bionic toe cap leaves sufficient space for toes to move and mitigates external impact.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project was initiated in Shenzhen, China in June 2020 and listed in June 2022.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The development of the feet is a continuous process. Children develop their comprehensive sensory abilities at the age of 1.5 to 4, during which foot-natural environment contact is essential to enhance the sensitivity of foot tactile nerves and effectively exercise the muscles and ligaments of the soles. Medical research shows that most foot bones are calcified cartilage, which is elastic and east to deform. Therefore, a pair of children shoes with gait assistance function is necessary, it can help children learn to walk more easily and healthily, stimulate growth function and promote sound gait development.
CHALLENGE: The difficulty of this design is to provide children with scientific and comfortable shoes, expand their thinking while improving the walking ability. In this connection, the design team integrates ergonomics, biomechanics, sports medicine, skin management and other factors to create the distinctive modular structured sole and bionic toe cap, which better meets walking needs of children and improve their toe grip, balance, vision and order perception.
