PRIMARY FUNCTION: Multifunctional Conduit
INSPIRATION: When the chief physicians of the First Affiliated Hospital of Guangzhou Medical University supported Wuhan, a large number of COVID-19 patients needed intubation to detect important parameters such as esophageal pressure, stomach pressure and diaphragmatic signal, while some patients needed nasal feeding with liquid food to supplement nutrition. The patient's mouth and nose were filled with tubes, and the patient looked miserable. Nurses in nursing because of complicated operation, will consume a lot of time, nurses work intensity is high. Occasionally, because the pipeline is not clear, the work efficiency is very low.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Design of integrated nasal feeding method, transpulmonary pressure detection technology (esophageal pressure, gastric pressure) and electrical signal detection of diaphragm. The doctor adjusts the knob clockwise to fill the balloon to complete the measurement. Reverse to the initial position can be withdrawn air reset. Different knobs are connected with different colors to reduce misoperation. Corrosion-resistant medical materials reduce multiple intubation injuries in patients.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Medical staff can intubate through the nasal canal of the patient, and then choose the esophageal pressure (yellow) or gastric pressure (green) pipeline by color. There is a gas volume scale mark set on the knob, and rotate the corresponding knob to the desired scale to achieve quantitative air pumping to the air bag. Before pulling out the pipe, reverse rotate the knob to 0 scale mark first, and then slowly pull out the pipe.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project began in February 2021 in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China, and was completed in June 2022 in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, China.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: With the widespread outbreak of the global epidemic, the nursing work of patients is heavy, which consumes a lot of medical resources. We surveyed medical workers and hospital patients who had supported the outbreak in Wuhan to find out their needs. Through clinical practice, the product is continuously optimized iteratively. An integrated nasal feeding, electrical signal, esophageal pressure and gastric pressure detection catheter has been developed, which has a cost advantage and can improve the detection efficiency and accuracy. It alleviates the working intensity of medical staff and improves the comfort of patients.
CHALLENGE: 1. How to inflate and deflate two balloons (one for esophageal pressure and one for gastric pressure) conveniently and quickly under the premise of a small volume.
2. How to achieve high-precision pumping and pumping.
3. Selection of metal materials with both corrosion resistance and electrical conductivity
