| DESIGN NAME: Punk Health Regimen Criteria PRIMARY FUNCTION: Interactive Book INSPIRATION: Punk Health is suicidal health maintenance. This is a kind of life behavior of overdraft and self rescue and it has been the young people’s lifestyle. In the fast-paced life, the young generation born after the 90s is getting accustomed to this unhealthy lifestyle, which is full of self-mockery, anxiety and helplessness. We are escaping from pressure in real life and fighting against this world with self-deception. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is a dictionary of health care methods in the form of a combination of illustrations and pictures that seem to be able to remedy unhealthy first aid products. Humor actually represents young people’s helpless and unhealthy lifestyles, allowing people to realize the potential danger of that, while irony shows black humor. Material objects are placed on each page, next to a description of their composition and how to use them. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: When readers read this book, they will find that illustrations printed on PVC and pictures are related. Like a dictionary, each page will teach you how to use the objects. At the same time, the material objects can also be used by readers. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in October 2019 and finished in February 2020, and was exhibited in Shanghai in March 2021. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: I made a cover, picture and text introduction and index, because my theme is the way of life, mainly teaching people how to keep healthy without healthy living habits, with black humor, so the typesetting of each page of text introduction is based on the basic dictionary form, followed by a paragraph of explanation after the bad lifestyle, with the compact feeling of dictionary, and added notes to make they are classified. Phonics are added under the health care items. I put the material object on each page of the introduction of the items, and beside it is the introduction of its ingredients or use methods. Under the post-modern background supported by network technology, subculture such as punk health care conveys young people's confrontation with the mainstream of society. With the deepening of social stratum and the increasing economic burden, in order to alleviate this anxiety, we had to misappropriate the rebellious spirit in punk music for daily life, and choose healthy health preservation to remedy at the cost of consuming life, thus forming a mixed and contradictory lifestyle. I interviewed some young people about their daily life to study whether their lifestyle is in line with this background. When their lifestyle has become an addiction that cannot be stopped, in order to seek psychological comfort, applying facial mask and eating health products have become the preferences of most young people. This way of trying to make up for the psychological anxiety caused by death behavior is like a mathematical problem. One is positive, the other is negative, and then negative numbers cancel each other out. The purpose of this design is to reveal this contradictory way of punk health preservation to the audience, and at the same time reflect the cultural phenomenon and entertainment behind it, so that this community can reflect on itself through black humor. CHALLENGE: Thinking about how to effectively express the link between illustration and picture to explain the contradictory punk health subculture lifestyle, several versions were tried and finally fit with the content. As it is an inject binding, the PVC could not be bound inside, so I bound each page of the book by hand with the PVC in the pages.
