DESIGN NAME: Warm Place
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential
INSPIRATION: Since the clients have a young daughter, they want a safe and comfortable space for their child. The design team takes 'family-friendly residence' as the theme and uses rounded corners to allow the kid to move around freely. In terms of style, the clients want some dark wood veneer as an accent. They also want the whole space to be natural and minimalistic but with a grand feel for friends and family visits.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: To create a safe and non-toxic environment for children: In the public area, to allow children to run freely at home, the design team apply rounded corners at every turn and even columns to prevent children from collision and injury. In addition to safety, the design team also pays attention to the use of materials. Most of the materials used in the project are natural and non-toxic, such as carbonized corners and environmentally friendly non-toxic lacquer on the veneer, which are more friendly to children. To make the ceiling not too monotonous, the design team designed a grille above the TV wall.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The project is designed for the clients' kids. The planning of each corner and the choice of materials are tailor-made for the family. Due to the outbreak of the epidemic in Taiwan when the project was completed, the clients and their daughters were forced to go out less, but they felt comfortable at home all day. The couch in the living room is a favorite space for both the client's husband and their daughter. The couch area is like a playground for the daughter and a space for the family to spend time with each other.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in 2021 in Kaohsiung City, Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Building materials: natural wood veneer, eco-friendly non-toxic paint, marble sheet, system cabinet, quartz tile, hexagonal tile, antibacterial recycled laminate, stainless steel, glass, artificial stone. The client's child is a toddler. To prevent toxic materials from affecting health, most of the materials used in the project are natural and non-toxic, except for the eco-friendly non-toxic paint on the wood veneer. Considering that children's hands will touch everywhere, the laminate of the living room system is made of antibacterial recycled laminate to ensure the health of the client's daughter.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The project is a new apartment with a total interior area of 99.1 square meters (excluding balcony and toilet), with three bedrooms, a living room, and a dining room. The sofa was placed in the couch area. Since the sofa may block the route and is formalized, the design team transform this area into a couch area to make the space flexible and maximize the scenery outside the window. At the same time, the client's daughter and husband also like to stay in this space.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: To allow children to run freely at home, the design team apply rounded corners at every turn and even columns to prevent children from collision and injury. The rounded shape of the foyer shows some waves, which is to allow the windows to be kept intact and have good lighting and add a touch of fun, and children also love this little corner. As for the entrance, the original layout had a wall in the front. However, the wall was in an abrupt position, and the kitchen was visible as soon as people entered the door. Therefore, remove the wall and added a new marble wall to solve the Feng-Shui problem and meet the client's needs.
CHALLENGE: To hide the TV wall, the design team cut the column and made a TV wall with a storage function. The design team put a lot of thought into hiding the large pillar and the beams on the ceiling. As for the foyer, the original layout exposed the kitchen upon entering. In consideration of Feng-Shui and the client's needs, the design team adds a stone wall to block the view and serve as the kitchen appliance cabinet.
