DESIGN NAME:
Resonance Clues

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Residential

INSPIRATION:
There are no partitions in the empty apartment, and the client prefers a cold style. In this project, the design team uses stacking techniques to create a cool tone space with a metallic texture, while using the natural texture of the building materials to balance the cold impression. Finally, the design team explores the 'space penetration' and 'connection between members' to achieve a perfect balance, creating a quality space for the family to meet their future needs.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The uniqueness lies in the use of building materials to create a penetrating aesthetic and the layout to enhance family cohesion. In the part of space penetration, the design team uses three different materials with different effects. The gray steel stone, dark titanium plated steel, and dark metal are presented on the flooring, laminate, and facade respectively. The designers are adept at using material combinations as a metaphor for the traces of life, bringing a natural ambiance of time passing into the neutral and cool tone space.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The design team has broken the definition of space by planning an open plan public area and taking the layout and materials to change the definition of space and explore the intent of family life. From the foyer, living room, and master bedroom, there are no partitions. This layout gives the space a sense of transparency and visual penetration. Meanwhile, the three bedrooms are at three angles in the living room, forming a stable triangular structure. The family can see each others interaction from any angle, and the exchange of sight creates a warm and cozy daily life.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project finished in January 2022 in Taiwan.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:
Interior Space and Exhibition Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
Building materials, woodwork, iron, stone, glass, titanium plated steel, baked iron, mirror fluoridization, etc. There are no complicated patterns or carvings in the project, but only different materials that complement each others characteristics. For example, the iron plates on the wall behind the sofa are produced by high temperature kiln firing to create a gradation of color and pattern, while the other facade is made of gray stone with irregular patterns to create layers of light and shadow.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
The project is a 550 square meter apartment with three bedrooms, a living room, a dining room, and two bathrooms. To form independent spaces, the private areas are staggered in three directions in the public area. The design team explores the relationship between the public space and the private space by using facade extensions and different materials. Moreover, the facade of each area is covered with reflective materials to extend the visual effect and blur the boundaries to achieve a magnified visual effect. The reflective materials look cold, but they have a special mottled texture that preserves the traces of time.

TAGS:
Neutral tones, metal, various materials, large areas, higher floor.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
To make the space look warm in a cold tone but neat, the designer used metals to present the theme. The designer used different characteristics and styles of metal to build an affordable luxurious atmosphere and provide the family with the most comfortable interior design in terms of details and space. Various techniques such as titanium plating, brushed aluminum finish, random pattern, polishing, etc. are on the metals, which can become facade, laminate, or details. The metal is perfect for creating a stylish residence that the client expects.

CHALLENGE:
There are two challenges in the project. First, there were many large beams, including the living room ceiling and the entrance. The design team wraps the beams with corrugated panels to give the living room a lively image and uses black mirrors to eliminate the bulkiness of the structure. The second is the integration of materials, especially in the foyer facade where the beam continues to the ceiling. For this part, stone, steel, and wood panels are used to harmoniously solve the problem of vertical and horizontal surfaces.
