DESIGN NAME: H Home
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential
INSPIRATION: The project serves a couple and their three daughters. The design team installs sliding doors to increase penetration and redefine the facade. In addition, they use a variety of materials to create a diverse space. When the sliding doors open, the metallic effect creates a textured atmosphere.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: There was a wall between the dining room and kitchen, and living room. The design team removed the facade so that the public area can be connected. Family members are free to enjoy the rest of the space, whether on the kitchen island or in the living room. The design team extended the possibilities of the same space by modifying the existing form. The designers install special woven metal mesh sliding doors to distinguish the boundaries between the areas. The facade is generally fixed, but the sliding door makes the facade 'movable', thus enriching the visual, functional, and meaningful aspects of the facade.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: There is a large amount of metal in the space. At the entrance, the woven metal mesh is combined with the kitchen cabinet to form a visual extension effect. The opposite side of the metal facade is a window view, and the natural light is mapped on the mesh to diffuse the unique texture of the metal. As for the highlights, warm light decorates the storage cabinet to make them become one of the artworks. The oxidized metal has a patina of age, which gives a humanistic impression to the cold tone space
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in February 2022 in Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Building materials, steel stone flooring in the public area, chamfered hand-scraped wood flooring in the private area, and hand-scraped special mineral paint in the ceiling. Stainless steel woven mesh, moru glass, and white marble slabs are used on the facade. For furnishings, the project uses copper (oxidized) for chandeliers. The sliding doors in the public area are made of stainless steel mesh, which enhances the ambiance through light reflection. The private sliding doors are made of moru glass, which adds a hazy light aesthetic to the bedroom.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The project has a total area of 165.2 square meters, with three bedrooms, two living rooms, and two bathrooms. It includes an open plan living room, dining room, kitchen, master bedroom, daughters room, and study room. The design team installs sliding doors to separate the spaces without destroying the facade of each area. The theme of the public area is casual, with no clear distinction between the areas. Meanwhile, the carpet is also a bedroom, and the TV wall is also a bookcase. By constantly breaking down meanings and constructing concepts, the designers make the space more in line with the aesthetics of daily life.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design explores many aspects that are different from traditional impressions, such as expressing the meaning of space through materials or rearranging the layout to explain the fundamental concept of life. Finally, in the cool-tone metallic space, the technique of antiquing is used to keep the time in the space so that the design and aesthetics are closely connected. In terms of materials, the project uses a variety of materials with different characteristics to give the space a diverse look. Also, the antiquity of the metal surfaces adds warmth.
CHALLENGE: There are two challenges in this project. One is that the living room and kitchen are cut by a facade, which makes the space too narrow. After removing the facade, the design team install sliding doors to highlight the facade's presence and connect the various areas, thus breaking the established space. The second is the integration of materials. Various materials are mixed and matched to create an artistic atmosphere in dark colors. The former is 'the use of different possibilities in various spaces', while the latter is 'the use of different materials in the same place'.
