DESIGN NAME: Blanc
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential
INSPIRATION: The design team took this as inspiration and used wood grain and grilles to create a fresh feeling in the space. The design team also added architectural concrete to highlight the specific parts to form a diversified visual effect. As for the color, white, gray, and brown are used to create a bright feeling, which is in line with the theme of the project, 'Blanc'.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project has a plan for traffic flow and visual presentation. Natural materials are used to create a fresh and elegant atmosphere, such as white, architectural concrete, and wood grain to create a Japanese minimalist space. In terms of traffic flow, the sliding door is equipped for the passageway between the living room and the dining room. On the one hand, the light-transmitting material increases the lighting in the dining and kitchen area, while the sliding doors allow the living room and dining room to become separate spaces and block the greasy cooking odors.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The project has a rectangular layout, which leads to a lack of natural light at the end of the area. Therefore, the design team used glass sliding doors in the public area to bring in natural light, divide the areas, and block greasy cooking odors. Moreover, to blend wood grain in the kitchen, high definition printing boards imported from Japan were used in the ceiling to give a consistent style to the public area.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in March 2021 in Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Materials, wood grille, super wear-resistant wood flooring, high definition printing boards imported from Japan, architectural concrete coating, glass, iron parts, and system boards. This project adopts lightweight and durable system boards for storage cabinets. The combination of the wood grille and architectural concrete creates a Japanese home atmosphere. When the different color temperature is reflected on the architectural concrete, the incredible light reveals a clean and fresh feeling, while the warm light brings comfort.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The project is a newly completed house with 122 square meters of space, with a public area for living, dining, and kitchen on the ground floor, a master bedroom on the second floor, and a double bedroom on the third floor. The home is for a young couple and a toddler. Furthermore, the entire space is in light tones, and the public area is decorated in brown, white, and gray to convey the Japanese style. The master bedroom in the private area has the same elements but with a slightly warmer orange tone.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The wall behind the sofa in the public area is architectural concrete. The track lighting gives a textured tone to the living room, and the wooden grille design on the right side brings a bit of warmth to the space. At the same time, a glass sliding door in the passage between the dining and kitchen room distinguishes the functions of the two areas without blocking the light and traffic flow. In the private area, wood grain flooring covered the whole room. In addition, the design team used the fragmented space between the columns to make bookshelves to add a touch of bookishness to the area.
CHALLENGE: The original dining room and kitchen were combined, and the L shaped equipment in the kitchen was small and created a visual division. Therefore, the design team enlarged and extended the kitchen equipment, so that the cabinetry is like a hug, and the client's family can enjoy a warm atmosphere when dining.
