| DESIGN NAME: Love PRIMARY FUNCTION: Church INSPIRATION: We love because God first loved us. John 4:19 We hope to use the space as the medium to combine the application of natural materials with thoughtful, warm, and zero-distance design techniques, to convey cross-ethnic cohesion between people, the invisible and abstract love. To implement the ideal state of the old are cared for until death, the adults are gainfully employed, and the children are nurtured. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The multi-functional definitions of a single unit can be seen throughout the various units in the project. For instance, the main hall is the venue for church members to gather on weekends, but acts as a senior day care center on weekdays – the affiliated social welfare institute corresponding to the aging population. The secondary hall provides a space for youth to gather on weekends, but can be used as a gym and for dance practices and socializing on weekdays. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: For different age groups to commonly use the space, this project has set up trunking in the ceiling and the walls to benefit the network connection and live streaming system, allowing time to stream the space, so that all types of events, courses, and performances can be conducted smoothly without interfering with each other, and expansions can be done at any time in the future even with software upgrades.The entire project has selected skin-friendly and stress-relieving materials, such as warm wood finishing, and the organic green wall with a grey-toned stone pattern, allowing dignity, greenness, rationality, and healing effect to complement each other. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The item began the construction in October 2018 in Beitun, Taichung, Taiwan, and was completed and activated in June 2019. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The entire project focuses on sound-proof construction that will not disturb the neighbors, therefore, the construction adopted sound damping materials such as aluminum ceiling sound barrier boards, wood fiber boards, eco-friendly plastic-wood hollowed grilles, and fire-proof sound-absorbing foam boards to reinforce the sound absorption, dissipation, conduction, and sound-proofing effects. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The base is the entire B1 floor of the building, with a total area of 990m2 for the item. TAGS: Interior design, planning of church, commercial space design, residential design, organic green wall, multi-functional café RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The outbreak of the global COVID-19 pandemic was encountered shortly after the starting of the operation, where high-risk gatherings are not allowed; luckily, several types of communication software and live streaming equipment have been incorporated during the planning stage, allowing the main hall to transform into a shooting and editing studio, where the preaching can be provided via the online live streaming approach to act as the spiritual support for the church members, which also fulfilled our initial concept of In the Name of Love. CHALLENGE: Considering the location of the item is on B1 of a residential building, the challenge is how to adequately restrict the massive amount of sound from the gathering crowds and musical instruments. This became the key point for the planning research. First of all, the structure of the stage in the main hall was segmented into several blocks, where each unit features a sound-absorbing pad as the damper; the same approach was also applied to the main structural RC panels and the location on the ceiling where the speakers were suspended, thereby proceeding with the absorption of the low-frequency vibrations. Secondly, eco-friendly hollowed grilles were used to dissipate the high frequency, while the aluminum sound barrier boards and insulation were used to break up the sound field. The use of sound-absorbing foam wall panels has optimized the effects of the sound field.
