| DESIGN NAME: Crossover Scarf PRIMARY FUNCTION: Smart Warmer INSPIRATION: The CrossOver Scarf was designed to provide a warm and comfortable solution for extreme weather conditions, while incorporating sustainable elements. The scarf's sleek design protects from strong winds and cold temperatures without being bulky. It is made from high-quality, sustainable materials that are soft and warm to the touch, providing maximum comfort for the user. The unique crossover design allows it to be worn in a variety of ways, providing versatility and flexibility. Our goal was to create a functional and sustainable product that was also stylish and comfortable. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The CrossOver Scarf is a unique and innovative design that combines natural materials and textile technology to create the ultimate comfortable wearable. The scarf is made by knitting heat-conductive smart textiles with merino wool, which removes bulkiness and provides a gentle sensation like the skin under the sunshine when plugged. The high breathability of the scarf ensures that it does not cause any irritations to the skin or allergies. What sets the CrossOver Scarf apart from other scarves is its timeless and minimal design, which incorporates wear comfort and functionality. The scarf is indistinguishable from regular knits, yet provides the wearer with the ability to stay warm without any fear of sudden changes in the weather. Overall, the CrossOver Scarf's unique properties of combining natural materials with textile technology, its heat-conductive smart textiles, and its timeless and minimal design make it a truly innovative and functional wearable. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The CrossOver Scarf is designed to be user-friendly and easy to operate. The scarf features two small pockets under the left side for slipping in the slim battery and control. To use the scarf, simply fold it horizontally in half and put the warmer part close to your neck. Secure the scarf by feeding the other ends through the tunnel where the small pockets are located. The scarf's heat-setting level is adjustable, allowing users to customize the warmth level to their liking. The preferred heat setting can be memorized and controlled via a smartphone app, making it easy to use and convenient. The CrossOver Scarf is washable after detaching the cable and batteries, making it easy to maintain and keep clean. Overall, the operation and interaction with the CrossOver Scarf is seamless and user-friendly. CHALLENGE: The creative challenge in the development of the CrossOver Scarf was to create a warm and comfortable accessory that could be used in cold weather. The biggest obstacle was to find a way to provide warmth without using hardware electronics, as electronics can be uncomfortable to wear next to the skin. To overcome this challenge, the team used fabric innovation to create a heat-conductive smart textile that was safe and comfortable to wear. The fabric temperature was purposely limited to below 50°C, making it safe and comfortable to use on bare skin without adding bulky layers. The team also designed the scarf to be simple and lightweight, with two small pockets for the battery and control, and a small tunnel to feed the scarf ends to fit snugly. The power was connected by just two snaps on the scarf, minimizing the risk of technophobia from users. To ensure that the scarf was safe to use in snow or rain, the team used patented textile technology in the engineering of the scarf. The end result was a warm and comfortable accessory that could be used in any weather conditions.
