| DESIGN NAME: Acacia PRIMARY FUNCTION: Earring INSPIRATION: It started as a seed fallen down from a tree. The name is called Acacia, designer's daughter found the seed and showed to designer. He looked at the seed carefully, fascinated by its complicate shape and decided to transform it into an earring. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: the complicated surface of this earring gives an whole new look of how earrings can be. Instead of front and back look of an earring, it is beautiful in multiple ways to look at. clasp is melted inside the structure, so the design has no compromise, to achieve this we designed a whole new clasp, and the weight must be perfectly balanced. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: There's a hidden hinge on the part off the earring, when open the earring, just simply pull the back part of the earring, and the hinge will open, when putting to your ears, just push the back part, when hearing a "tick" sound, which means is complete locked. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in December 2020 and finished in July 2021 in Shenzhen. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Wax carving, lost-wax casting, goldsmith, stone-setting, gold-plating. Using material, yellow gold, titanium, Rubellite, Citrine, Tourmaline. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: width 30mm x depth 21.2mm x height 32.2mm TAGS: gold earrings, creative earrings, designers earrings, gold earrings, acacia RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Research from the observation of nature. CHALLENGE: Throughout the process of making this earring, the hardest part was where should the clasp been placed, and how to make it invisible, also comfortable, at this period a lot of tryouts must be done, and broke two pieces in experiment. As finally been accomplished, this part was added various small details and small components inside the earring. Another part was finding the balance of the earring, as can be seen from the special form, it's not a tradition kind of earring, so finding the perfect balancing both visually and comfortably was a hard part.
