DESIGN NAME: Uno
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Eco Smart Garden
INSPIRATION: Uno design is inspired by the hortus conclusus, a feature from medieval cloisters. In this way, Uno is linking ancient traditions with our present. In fact, its watering technology is named Olla and it was widely used by Romans. The vase inverts the original system where the Olla was containing the water, in this case there is the soil. Moreover, Uno adopts eco-design and eco-friendly packaging because we believe in wellness andsustainability.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Uno is not a common vase, but a self-watering terracotta pot handcrafted in Italy. The smart pot is characterized by an automated system easy to use also if you don't have a green thumb. In fact, terracotta used has the right ratio of porosity for watering the plants. Uno has a modular and asymmetric geometry, coming with different colours and a limited edition. Moreover, the base allows to insert a metal frame for the growing lamp Meno giving borth to other products: Due and Tre.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: -
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in 2018 between Paris and Treviso (Italy). It was exhibited in Salone de mobile with is big brother Quattro in 2021, during "1000 vases" exhibition, including the publication of the book.
Currently, the project is arrived in its final version with the optimization of the base for hosting the metal support of the grow lamp.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Kigarden mission is to re-establish a link between urban people and the healing nature of plants using eco products that allow it in an innovative and engaging way.
The treatment with medicinal plants is considered highly safe and these remedies are in sync with nature.
Eco smart gardens of Kigarden, starting from the micro smart pot Uno and arriving to the big brother Quattro, are green solutions conceived to increase personal well-being and beauty, literally bringing nature at home.
Green life can really improve our emotional state, as a consequence our life. In our society, completely chaotic and self-referential, is important to keep human relations high. Thus, why not using plants?
Let's imagine a working space, such as a bank in a big city centre, with standard fournitures and lights, common living spaces and maybe grey colours... Where is the pleasure of life? Where is the pleasure of working there?
A good design have to solve a problem.
Uno design is replying to this sentence as a little generator of life, not only for the plants but also for people that are using it. The desire of playing with its multiple compositions available as a child and of sharing them with others is started.
CHALLENGE: The hardest part of this project was to find the best terracotta composition for growing plants and its colours applications. After years of tests we achieved the result we were searching. Moreover, the idea to keep a product in line with our brand identity, completely oriented to wellness, was a big challenge in all our decisions. The result is a product 100% natural material and handmade in Italy by high artisanal knowledge.
