| DESIGN NAME: Crystal Opera House PRIMARY FUNCTION: Art Installations INSPIRATION: The designer has always had a unique yearning for a classical opera house. The Opera House is a gem of architecture and the highest palace of art. The traditional opera house adopts a horseshoe-shaped enclosure design, which not only effectively utilizes natural sound energy, but also creates an atmosphere for the audience to enjoy traditional opera. In the designer's mind, this horseshoe-shaped box almost represents a traditional opera house, so the "box" design is used as the main visual form. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project is an all-crystal giant hanging crystal art installation. In the 1,600-square-meter giant banquet hall, a steel frame TRUSS frame is used to build a hoisting load-bearing structure for suspending millions of K9 crystal particles. Millions of crystal particles are not simply arranged, but use curves and shapes of different lengths to shape layers of "Opera House boxes", creating a giant "Crystal Opera House" in the air. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: A special interactive design, three crystal gates are specially designed and customized with crystal at the entrance, which symbolizes that the curtain of the opera is about to open, and the lifting tool is used for partial lifting. The characteristics of crystal are light transmission and refraction. The installation focuses on the design of point lighting, one lamp and one crystal, and the crystal is brightened in a breathing rhythm. On that day, a 12-member mini symphony orchestra was arranged to perform live, with the intention of restoring the atmosphere of the opera house from the auditory perspective. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started planning and design in March 2021, and completed the detailed design and model design in mid-April 2021. After nearly 3 weeks of pre-processing, the construction was completed for two days and one night from May 13th to 15th, 2021. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The giant installation is composed of millions of K9 crystal particles, mainly transparent and custom blue crystal particles and ice blue silk curtains. The specially customized arc-shaped enclosed "box" structure is used to shape the hanging crystal, and the crystal lengths of different lengths and two different colors are customized to create "boxes" with different positions. The longest hanging crystal bar is 3.5 meters and the shortest is 1.5 meters. The crystal size of each crystal bar is a specially calculated match. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The total height of the giant device is nearly 4000mm, the length is 36000mm, and the width is 20000mm. The longest single crystal bar is 3500mm, and the shortest is 1500mm. There are about 100,000 crystal bars in total. A single crystal bar has an average of 1 crystal pendant and 30 crystal particles. The interval is about 100mm. Each crystal particle is artificially connected one by one, and the machine cannot be used. TAGS: Art installations, Exhibition, Handicrafts, Public art, Event decoration, Decoration RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Using a giant crystal installation with breathing lights, it explores how crystal, a granular material, has more room to play. Whether there are more possibilities for the shapes and patterns that the point-like material can form. In addition, crystal strips are easy to knot and entangle. Before the completion of this work, we are not even sure whether a single crystal length of 3500mm can be successfully completed. This should also be an attempt at the structure of a giant crystal installation. For such a large volume of crystal particles and projects, the overall load weight and construction details need to be considered. CHALLENGE: Crystal grains are usually dotted, almost mosaic, but we have developed many unusual shapes. For example, crystals can only be used to make neat arrays, and the shapes are neat. For the sake of drape, crystal pendants are needed to finish. However, the three French crystal gates need to use crystal dot arrays to create European-style complicated decorative lines. We spend a lot of time doing research and development with models. It is also a brand-new attempt to use crystal strips of different lengths to shape the "boxes" of the opera house. The letter logo is made of crystal strips in the prologue hall.
