| DESIGN NAME: Inkniverse PRIMARY FUNCTION: Contemporary Digital Ink Art INSPIRATION: This ink animation is inspired by classical Chinese ink painting tradition as well as modern digital animation technology to create contemporary ink animation for the digital age. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The art of ink is a unique universe with a long history and special brushwork and textures combined with profound spirituality. Through digitization, animated video language, and generative imagery, Inkniverse expands the expressive power of ink art by adopting and extending the vocabulary of classical ink painting traditions from the East and strengthening its visual impact through Western geometric structure. This effort aims to promote the evolution of contemporary ink towards abstraction, the sensibility of postmodernism, and the nuances of the digital age, at the same time, an ethereal atmospheric quality and the dynamic forces of life energy. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This is a contemporary ink video animation based on ink painting traditions with a new interpretation in the digital age. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 3840 x 2160 ink animation, 00:03:03 TAGS: Ink painting, digital art, ink animation, interdisciplinary creation RESEARCH ABSTRACT: With water and ink constantly colliding and intertwining, an array of ink splashes marches in directional movements to form a central element that works both like a planet orbits in a mysterious cosmic space and as a surge of light or energy spurts out from within. These familiar yet abstract images make us aware of the miraculous vitality in nature as well as the enigmatic process of creation in the universe. Reflecting a reverence for both the spirit of Daoism and the Sublime, as well as an ever-renewed wonder at a universe revealed to us through modern science, our work celebrates the dynamic energies that give birth to new life, new planets, and new stars. CHALLENGE: Bringing classical ink painting tradition to the modern digital age. NAME: University of Macau Department of Arts and Design PROFILE: Department of Arts and Design (DAD) at the University of Macau focuses on education, research and service in the fields of arts, design, and digital media. DAD collaborates with the Department of Communication, Centre for Arts and Design, Department of History, and the Faculty of Education for MA and PhD programmes in Visual Communication to cultivate talents in art, design, and creative media for Macao and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area. Through establishing a platform for international exchange and collaborations in interdisciplinary research projects, DAD endeavors to promote creativity in the fields of arts, design, and digital media internationally.
