DESIGN NAME: Shelter,Cemetery
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Costume and Fashion
INSPIRATION: This project responds to my manifesto of creating an imaginative utopian or dystopian future. Due to the impact of the pandemic, the world people living in changed beyond recognition. Focusing on the human form, the story indicates two protagonists struggling and trying to adapt or mutate in order to live in an extreme underground environment.
I wish to build up a subtle connection between the audience and my work and make everyone curious about what happened and what will happen next.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: For this project, the designer wishes to start from the stage of escaping from the real world, with a reinforced sense of the human physical body. As a result, she wrote dystopian stories and create weird characters that could live there. Her current studies focus on how harmful particles can appear invisible but breakthrough the immune system and affect the whole body. She wants to show the dilemma between control and lack of control through body movement that could define the characters' imaginary future.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The 3D printed mask contains liquid crystal ink and thermochromic ink during and after the printing, the handpieces and masks will change color under different temperatures, like chameleons and cuttlefishes.
The bodysuit contains UV reactive ink during mixing, I was able to create a see-through bioluminescence effect. The whole costume would look like a bioluminescent creature under ultraviolet light.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in January 2021 in London and finished in June 2021 in London. The project was exhibited at the Royal College of Art both digitally and physically in 2021. Also in September 2021 at M.A.D.S. Art Gallery in Milan, Italy.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: During the making process of the first garment, I've used 3D printing, both molding with Blender and a 3D pen. For the second character, I made a bodysuit and a pair of gloves that are fully covered by mixed media materials that represent skin diseases like eczema, blisters, scald, and other allergy effects.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: During the research phase of this project, I wish to build up some work that could embrace my manifesto of creating an imaginative utopian or dystopian future. Due to the impact of the pandemic, the world I’ve been living in changed beyond recognition. During that period of time, I came up with the idea of creating a story based on post-apocalyptic New York.
CHALLENGE: During the making process, I started with building possible shapes with clay and sculpting techniques but soon realized they are too heavy if I wish to apply them to physical body. As a result, I have moved to 3D printing.
