DESIGN NAME: Tentagon
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Inflatable Tent
INSPIRATION: In the past, tents with metal brackets were not convenient enough for camping beginners to assemble and store. Therefore, we used an inflatable technology to design the tent. However, the current inflatable tents on the market all use one-axis technology. Technology is limited in appearance and structural stability, so we designed tentagon and used high frequency sealing processing technology to manufacture inflatable frame.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Tentagon is a two person lightweight tent with an inflatable frame, mainly for beginners in camping. Compared with the inflatable tents on the market, tentagon is lighter and more technical. It adopts innovative three-axis air column technology, which subverts the previous one axis technology on the market, so that the overall tent frame has a better supporting structure. It is also made of environmentally friendly fabrics.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Tentagon can be inflated within 2 minutes, and the user only needs to fill the inflatable frame to complete the construction. In addition to setting up, the one-piece tent is also more convenient and quick to pack up. The overall shape of the tent is represented by a pentagon, which is connected to the inner tent through the left and right inclined angles, and uses gravity to achieve a perfect balance between the inner tent and the air column.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in July 2021, completed in January 2022, and completed the design of the second edition in March, which will be exhibited at Young Designers’ Exhibition in Taiwan in June 2022.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The frame of the tentagon tent is made in an inflatable way. Using high frequency sealing technology, two pieces of nylon fabric are made by sealing and gluing through high temperature and high pressure, and corresponding loops are added to the inflatable column. The fabric of the inner and outer tents is made of fabric with wind resistance, high waterproof coefficient and UV resistance, so that the whole tent can be used in severe climate environment.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Type of Research:Traditional Tent Use Feedback
Research Objectives: Expect to find the problems of traditional tent design and improve them.
Research methods: First collect data, and then start to summarize the problems of traditional tents.
Use of Internet and physical questionnaires to collect data.
The experimental results show that as many as 80 percent of novice campers feel that the current commercial tents are very inconvenient to build and store. Quick build and simple storage steps are the main needs at present.
CHALLENGE: When designing tentagon, the most challenging thing is the design of the inflatable shaft structure. The three-axis inflatable structure must be considered in terms of angles, manufacturing procedures, design, etc. As long as a problem is not dealt with, the inflatable structure will be deflated. , so we made many models for testing, and then we designed the most suitable structure for the triaxial air column.
