DESIGN NAME: Peace of Mind
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Interior Design
INSPIRATION: Over the past 30 years, the mountains in Xindian were full of real estate development. The client of this case could no longer to see her hometown being destroyed. She bought the last undeveloped piece of land on the mountainside and established the Educational Foundation to protect the animals and plants of this forest. It is the kind of fate that made the client who likes to protect nature entrusted this case to the design team.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This is an apartment located on the first floor, with open and independent front and back yards. The client hopes to combine the indoor space with the front and back courtyard landscape. She can do yoga, painting, singing bowl healing and music creating in the apartment. The design team set the theme as a place for meditation and self-healing.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The design team set the front yard into a floating water garden. The backyard is built into a natural world of ferns and vanilla. Under this design theme, the design team connects the piano room and the outer space of the master bedroom in an elevated platform. The piano room with 90 degree window view is built as a contemplative corner with oak as the sky and teak as the ground. The platform space in front of the master bedroom is shaped as a semi-outdoor yoga space. The client can sit or lie down here, listen to the sound of the water, meditate or do outdoor yoga.
At the entrance of the transition space, the design team used rough, dark, and calm imitation stone tiles to shape the dust-falling area. The shoe cabinet door is made of rattan and Taiwan Nanmu wood. The floor is placed with a Taiwan-shaped natural serpentine stone chair. With the solid wood leaning against the wall, the client will be immersed in a natural and lazy atmosphere as soon as she enter the door.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in September 2021 in New Taipei City, Taiwan.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: In the interior space, in accordance with the client’s preference for nature, the design team used a variety of natural materials. But the design team excluded tropical rain forest species. The materials used in this case include Taiwan native species of wood, stone, wood wool cement board, rattan, cotton, linen, etc.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This interior space is 132 square meters. The front and back yards are 50 square meters.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The TV wall in the living room is based on the black stained oak grille and Taiwan bead tree platform. Wooden works and elk horn ferns are hung on the white wall which let the living room calm and have a unique expression. Shallow shelves which are placed spiritual books and small plants are set on both sides of the TV wall with linear lighting. An iron chandelier swaying with the wind suspended in the center of the dining room. Under the chandelier is a Taiwan camphor dining table exuding full of vitality. Paintings created by the client with self-healing are hung on the surrounding walls.
CHALLENGE: Due to the client’s needs for recording and creation at home, the designer specially selected wood wool cement board to lay on the wall and ceiling of the studio. In addition to helping indoor sound absorption, noise reduction and echo improvement, this material also presents a rustic beauty.
