PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Surrealist Menswear

INSPIRATION:
Dreams are successions of images, ideas, emotions, and sensations that occur involuntarily in the mind during certain stages of sleep. There are people who dream, their souls leave the body and “transcend” the space and time. Thus, in reality, they are in a constant state of fantasy. This collection takes inspiration from the artist Magritte Rene, through his art, we can express the twists and idiosyncratic vision of the real world and overturn the inherent ideas and impressions.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
This collection goes beyond the traditional tailoring of clothing, including asymmetrical front design, back placket with suit front design, and sunken patch pocket design, etc. A strong contrast of the use of fabric is also included in the design. Thick cotton common in winter contrasts with tulle common in summer to subvert the ordinary concept of four seasons and highlight the theme of the collection - the confused state of a sleepwalker dressing in his dream.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
Although the design of this collection partially subverts the general image of fashion, it still maintains its wearability. The model wears this outfits can move freely to explore the world. When swinging different movements, you may find out more hidden details by your action.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in April 2015 and completed in August 2015 in Hong Kong , and it was featured in San Francisco Art of Fashion Foundation in October 2015.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
In this collection, digital printing is used on four fabrics of different textures with various matching and overlapping are used to form another composite painting. The design uses the thinnest gauze fabric for laser cutting to create a multi-layered, yet not heavy clothing effect. Different tailoring and sewing skills bring out the convex and concave contrasts of the clothing. The whole set of outfit made strong layering through different matching.

This collection have 2 sets of menswear, consisting of 6 items and accessories including tops, suits , bottoms, outwears, hat , and tie. Size is medium.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
This collection combines the illusion of dreams,it transcending time and space and the state of a sleepwalker who travels and explores in a dream. Therefore, the imagination of running different spaces through the blue sky printting is used. The checkered pattern to make the trousers like pajama pants so as to enter the state of a sleepwalker. Through different matching and overlapping of printing fabric, multi-dimensional spaces and an new pictures are created. It explores the reality and reality of dreams, and the beauty of fantasy and change

CHALLENGE:
The sewing of different thickness fabrics is one of the features of this collection and it is also a big challenge. Among them, it is necessary to grasp the appropriate thickness and quantity to carry out sewing. For example, adding multiple pieces of laser cutting it will make difficult to sew the front placket of the shirt. When the organza fabric cover a thick fabric like thick tie, it needs to be dealt with and considered whether it will shift the desired pattern or cutting.

Pim Ng

PROFILE:
 Pim Ng is an independent artist working on promoting integration of art, design, fashion and dance. She loves to use playful or unordinary ways to express life. She emphasizes the integration of different art modalities. In her teaching and design work, she integrates fine art and dance actively. In 2017, she was invited to participate in the Osage Art Foundation to participate in HK! RUNWAY. This project aimed to try different ways to present fashion in an artistic, innovative and creative process. The group of models dressed up Pim Ng's FW2014 womenswear collection. Breaking the tradition of fashion shows, the collections were showed with dance to further emphasise the integration of arts. Pim Ng believes that through breaking some norms and combining elements from different art modalities, vitality in the design could be activated.
