| DESIGN NAME: Kuan PRIMARY FUNCTION: Armchair INSPIRATION: Kuan Chair is one of the pieces Frank Chou designed for FNJI. It is more free and agility in design, aim at modern and young generation, fusing contemporary design language, simple but warm, elegant and timeless. It contains the modern oriental ideology, molding the pioneer concept of exploring the ability of Chinese future lifestyle. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Kuan Chair represents a style of contemporary oriental manner. The structure of this chair is simple and unpretentious. With high quality metal and wool materials, Kuan Chair also reveals the bywords for elegance and wisdom. The different feelings experienced by the volume of its seat, the lines of its structure, and the contrast between substance and emptiness, almost shows the reserved thoughts in Oriental philosophy. It is available with different covering materials. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Cloth cover to take tight package process, soft package body form three-dimensional distinct, cloth surface flat fit, using multiple layers of different density of sponge combination filling to achieve a comfortable sitting feeling. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Kuan Chair adopts Italian brand imported wool fabric, which is stabilized by traditional process to obtain specific surface effect, giving smooth and soft hand feeling, and can achieve excellent resistance to pilling and wear resistance. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 690 mm x 735 mm x 670 mm TAGS: timeless, contrast, oriental, experimental RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Kuan Chair is a new experimental series design by Frank Chou for furniture brand Fnji. It is vested diversified color and outline, meanwhile added in plenty of software and metal element. It contains the modern oriental ideology, molding the pioneer concept of exploring the ability of Chinese future lifestyle. CHALLENGE: The challenge could be how to explore the possibility of future living through design, which requires a deep understanding of the living status of people and the culture background that different from the others. Also, as part of daily life, chair plays a close role with people, which correspond with their living habits and personality. NAME: FNJI x Frank Chou PROFILE: Brand: Fnji is an independent furniture brand founded in 2010 by designer Guqi Gao. Fnji ideal is to make practical, sturdy, durable and elegant everyday furniture.Since its birth, Fnji has been working on applying new design to traditional craftsmanship and has been thinking about multiple possibilities of inheritance. Fnji carries the gene of “Nature Bred”. The Taoism of China has an expression, “Tao models itself after nature”. The intimacy between humans and the nature is inherent. Fnji has always insisted on taking solid wood as the main material and using a multitude of natural materials like leather, wool and stone, infusing the spirit of the nature back to the daily life. Designer: Frank Chou, founder and creative director of Frank Chou Design Studio, is born to be interested in creativity and art. As a representative and independent designer with accumulation of working experience in Europe and maturity of design cognition, Frank Chou keeps capturing the essence of materials and objects, and creates elegant and significant design pieces.
