| DESIGN NAME: The Taoscan PRIMARY FUNCTION: Irish Whiskey Packaging INSPIRATION: Based on an open tray design, The Taoscan was created to be the centre of attention, a true centrepiece when brought to a table to be served. Visible from any angle, this 360-degree open design allows the bottle and the colours of the whiskey to showcase no matter the angle. The copper structure brings warmth to the tray, while the dark wood and leather handles bring a richness of textures to hold and admire, with a bottle that rises into a masculine silhouette, finished in obsidian detailing. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The world's first whiskey to be finished in Port and Chestnut, The Taoscan is a showstopping single malt, destined to restore Irish whiskey to a world stage in a rare, limited-edition release of just 4000 bottles. Created by the award-winning designer, Tiago Russo, The Taoscan offers every element for the perfect pour. A graceful, refined design, the walnut of the base calls to mind the rich, dark tones of an elegant bar, while the copper stems honour the cooperage and tones of a distillery. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Open the clasps in the display case and remove the lid by the upper leather handle, revealing the tray. As an open design, any component can be accessed at any point, from any angle. Glass, coaster and whiskey stones start the tasting experience, leading to the pour of the whiskey, before the pipette extracts water from the carafe in order to open up the flavours, making The Taoscan the ultimate bar tasting experience, where one single product coveys every detail to allow the perfect immersion. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Designed between November 2020 and May 2021, and firstly launched at a private tasting event in October 2021 in London, highly acclaimed by the critics and media before winning several accolades for both tasting and design awards. A completely different approach on Irish Whiskey and disrupting the experience boxes launched in the past, the innovative design allows for a total optimisation of an immersive and luxurious whiskey tasting experience. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The bespoke Taoscan glass vessel presents a faceted design with a thick base that elevates the whiskey, diamond-shaped towards the front, amongst a richness of colours that highlight the whiskey, always with the copper, leather and wooden accents in the background. The tray, on the other hand, combines everything needed for the ultimate whiskey tasting experience. Accessories, glass and bottle are precisely set into pockets that create the perfect immersion amongst the walnut and copper details. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Display Case: 310W x 225D x 350H The Serving Tray: 280W x 200D x 305H The tray maximises the entire tasting experience, accommodating not only the bottle, but the entire range of bespoke accessories: a glass and copper pipette, whiskey stones, carafe, coaster and glass, brought together to provide the ultimate whiskey bar experience. Protecting all these skilfully crafted items is the collector's display case, a statement piece with copper locks that turn The Taoscan into a museum-like product. TAGS: Whiskey, Whisky, Luxury, Packaging, Box, Bottle, Tray, Design, Collection, Product RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The development of The Taoscan was always based on creating the most complete whiskey tasting experience for bars and private events, compiled into one single product. Therefore, every single element was not just collated, but specifically designed for this product, from the bottle to the glasses, pipette or coasters. Every single detail had to compliment each other, fulfilling the user with the ultimate experience, allowing a person to fully enjoy the whiskey without any external accessories. CHALLENGE: The main challenge in creating The Taoscan was to provide a product that could, at the same time, provide all the components needed for the perfect whiskey tasting, and remain luxurious and easily interacted with. The goal was to see The Taoscan as an entire experience, instead of a closed box revealing just a bottle and the accessories are mere attachments. Here, the entirety of the product and their components matter, as only by using all of them we have the ultimate tasting experience. (CIWC) was founded with a clear intention to exploit the rapid evolution of the global Irish whiskey market by creating a range of premium and ultra-premium Irish whiskeys. The dramatic growth of the Irish whiskey market over the last twenty years has led to consumer reappraisal of the category, leaving the premium end under-served. Similarly, traditional whiskey companies have not seized modern marketing techniques despite the rapid penetration of brown spirits amongst the 25-45 year-old category. CIWC aims to meet this market need, offering high-quality whiskeys sold as rare and collectible releases. |
