| DESIGN NAME: Radical Chic PRIMARY FUNCTION: Italian Restaurant INSPIRATION: Radical Chic is a high-end Italian restaurant located on the 101/F of the International Commerce Center in Hong Kong. Being one of the highest restaurant in the city, it overlooks the spectacular sea view across the Victoria Harbor. A gallery-inspired minimalistic interior is chosen to melds the art of contemporary gourmet and design. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The main requirement for the design is to create a contemporary gallery-like space to match with the Italian delicacies. The design team has decided to also incorporate different contrasting colour elements, getting inspiration from the spectrum of the sky: muted earth tone of the dusk, vivid blue of the sunny day and vibrant orange of the sunset, allocating them into different zones to orchestrate a harmoniously chic colour scheme. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: To create a dramatic experience, the reception has dim sunset-orange light which set the tone for each arrival, and after walking through the wine cellar, customers are brought to the welcoming bar to enjoy a drink while enjoying the breath-taking open view of the city. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The sleek and modern design took inspiration from contemporary art gallery and is featured with a carefully selected range of materials in an earth tone palette, with highly textured white walls and eye-catching orange velvet, sensual sheer fabrics and custom designed wall to wall carpets, handpicked wall lights and bespoke furniture. The interior is curated as the perfect setting for the spectacular panoramic view and superb Italian dining experience. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This project is 2500 square feet TAGS: Havendesignhk, hkinteriordesigner, Restaurant, Interior Design, Commercial Space, RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The overall design theme is a pristine white space. Instead of a flat and uninteresting white, designer has handpicked selection of material to create touches and feel. A variety of subtly textured wallpaper is chosen for the gallery walls, highly textured art paint to create a natural touch for the bar area, custom made hand woven carpet for the main seating area, and ultra soft sheer fabric as floating partitions. CHALLENGE: During daytime, the invincible view becomes a major focus and part of the overall space. However at night, the darker exterior has changed the sense of space within the restaurant completely. It has been a challenge to create a design that works with both day and night with such contrasting spatial sense. We have use an array of adjustable and flexible lighting system to respond to this challenge, and to switch focus from the view to the artwork and the interior in the evenings.
