| DESIGN NAME: Gatorade GX Patch and APP PRIMARY FUNCTION: Mobile Application INSPIRATION: Gatorade’s founding mission is rooted in an enduring commitment to maximizing athletic performance and helping athletes perform their best. We know that every athlete is unique and as a result has individualized needs in order to fuel peak performance. Customization and personalization are the next frontier of sports, nutrition, and sustainability. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: For this elite hydration system, the reusable and customizable Gx bottle is key, working hand in hand with Gx pods. Available in nine different formulas, Gx pods contain differing levels of carbohydrates and electrolytes, which are suggested to the user by the Gx recommendation engine. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The latest upgrade to the system is the new Gx Sweat Patch that completes the personalized hydration system. Until now, sweat testing was traditionally done in a lab using expensive equipment and skilled technicians, and therefore only accessible by top professional teams. Gatorade transformed this resource-intensive process into a method that is simpler, cheaper, and accessible to everyone by developing the Gx sweat patch. The patch is a next-level wearable that sticks to the user’s forearm and collects sweat from one high-intensity workout to track fluid and sodium loss. Then, the Gx App—designed to help athletes optimize workouts and track long term progress—scans it all. Using that unique sweat profile, it recommends hydration and fueling strategies for the next time the activity is performed, helping athletes optimize their workout and recovery.
