PRIMARY FUNCTION: Food Delivery Robot
INSPIRATION: Inspired by stepped drawers, the design team of GS-X ONE adopted an ascending stepped structure, which ensures its stability and makes it convenient for users to put and take serving trays as well as making the most of the vertical space.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: GS-X ONE is a food delivery robot that can get connected to the smart service system of restaurants. With dual positioning cameras placed at the top and the bottom, it can quickly perceive the environment and plan paths for contactless delivery. Paired with the workstation, it can realize round-the-clock unmanned food delivery, thus helping cut costs of manual delivery and enhance delivery efficiency. It can also perform temperature measurement, which facilitates epidemic prevention and control.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Equipped with high-precision sensors and cameras at the top and the bottom, GS-X One can accurately navigate and plan routes to avoid people and obstacles, achieving stable unmanned delivery. It can take the elevator to deliver food across multiple floors. Its temperature measurement function detects potential pandemic threats in real time. With the workstation, the robot in low power will autonomously recharge its battery to realize round-the-clock unmanned services.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The design and development of the robot started in April 2021, Shanghai. It will be introduced to the Chinese market in March 2022.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The shell of GS-X ONE adopts PC/ABS injection molding, and the surface utilizes the techniques of particle coating of silver, gradient color and black as well as electroplating of champagne gold. The serving trays have gone through aluminum oxidation and covered by a bacteriostatic non-slip pad. The framework of the robot applies aluminum extrusion molding with stamping, and the base employs stainless steel frame to support the whole body.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design team found that food service staff are in large demand and young people are unwilling to take up this position, which causes shortages of food delivery staff and high costs of manual delivery in the catering and hospitality industry. With the development and prosperity of smart restaurants, autonomous food delivery is going to replace manual delivery; meanwhile, requests of pandemic control and prevention make contactless delivery an inevitable trend.
CHALLENGE: The complex layout and the high traffic of restaurants require the food delivery robot to quickly recognize and position the clients and plan corresponding delivery paths. With the dual positioning cameras at the top and the bottom, it can conduct fast recognition and path planning, which spares the need of pasting table numbers and QR location markers. Besides, its advanced shock mitigation system and low gravity center keep the machine body and the trays stable during the delivery.
