PRIMARY FUNCTION: Audio
INSPIRATION: The designer explored many possibilities in the early design and finally decided to seek inspiration from the nature of sound. The result is a visually dynamic, regularly repeating waveform that subtly combines the form and function of sound transmission.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Wave Bluetooth Speaker features a flowing shape, outstanding sound quality and excellent sustainability. It is designed to simulate the sound wave in the air in the form of the fabric and ultimately return to the essence of sound. The double-sided woven surface of the fabric reflects different lights and shadow changes to increase the sense of movement. The high-performance full-range loudspeaker with strong magnetic drive made of NdFeB ensures immersive audio effects. The elastic lanyard attaches it easily to bicycles, backpacks, etc. Thanks to the corrugated shape and non-slip fabric surface, the product can be held comfortably in the hand.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Control buttons are on the top of the product and users can connect to audio devices through Bluetooth. TWS pairing speaker is also available, providing rich soundscapes.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: Opening of the project in 1.2020, first sale in 8.2021.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: 2-inch ring rare-earth NdFeB high-intensity magnetically driven full-frequency speaker, ultra-thin anodized aluminum vibration cone, and 58mm circular passive radiator. The sound pressure is up to 90dB, and the low frequency goes down to 65Hz.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: After 11 months of working with several designers, NIO Life's team of designers came up with more than 10 different designs, turning them over and over again in order to better present the design of Wave's sound waves. After the design is confirmed, the appearance and the shape have been adjusted for many times, while the angle of the surface wave and the process of the buttons were constantly optimized.
CHALLENGE: The challenge in the design process is how to combine organic form with a reasonable layout of electronic components.
