| DESIGN NAME: Twist PRIMARY FUNCTION: Console Table INSPIRATION: Twist console table is designed with the necessity of a console table to be placed at the entryway. The design is inspired by the game Twister. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Twist is a stylish console table with a chamfered top and two twisted legs. The tabletop and twisted legs can be in various material combinations. The two twisted legs start at the center and end at the two opposite sides of the top, forming the supporting frame of the tabletop. A metal frame with cut-outs and a supporting structure under the tabletop provides strength, continuity and connects the twisted legs. Unlike other console tables with four legs, two twisted legs give Twist a sculptural look. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Twist is a console table designed to be placed at the entryway, hallway or in the dining room. Books, lamps, plants and various accessories can be placed on it. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The tabletop can be marble/colored tempered glass with chamfered sides. The marble/glass top sits in a metal frame. The sides of the metal frame have cut-outs on two long sides to show the detail of the material. A metal support structure continues underneath the tabletop that connects the legs and provides strength. The twisted legs can be rose gold/chrome electroplated or black powder coated steel. The legs are welded to the metal frame on opposite sides to establish continuity and stability. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 1000 mm (length) x 300 mm (width) x 800 mm (height) TAGS: Console table, Entrance table, Entryway table, Hallway table, Home furniture RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Instead of four straight legs on the corners, Twist has 2 twisted legs on the long sides that make it sculptural. The legs are welded to the metal frame that holds the tabletop. The tabletop material’s sides are chamfered to make it elegant. The metal frame does not continue all around, at halfway it is cut-out to show the material detail. Inside of the frame is chamfered, but the outside is straight. Underneath a support structure holds the tabletop; provides strength, stability and continuity. CHALLENGE: The main challenge was to ensure stability with two twisted legs with 90 degrees and at the same time show the chamfered cut of the tabletop without concealing it. The tabletop had to sit in the metal frame so the inner side of the frame is chamfered like the marble/glass top and the outer side is straight.
