| DESIGN NAME: Golden Angle PRIMARY FUNCTION: Pillow INSPIRATION: With the growth of the new generation lifestyle, many people have suffered from stiff neck and shoulders, hunchback, cervical vertebrae protrusion, and related health problems due to a long time of phubbing. During sleep, an ordinary pillow can only support the head and neck, but between the neck and shoulders, there is a suspending gap exerting high pressure on the spine. We have found a golden angle of the pillow which can perfectly fit the contours of the head all the way to the thoracic spine. The "Golden Angle Pillow" is tailor-made particularly for modern people. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A spine sleeping position, which can keep the back horizontal, is the most relaxing way to the cervical spine, and can avoid scoliosis as well as other physical symptoms. From a clinical research on many hunchback cases, we have created a sloping pillow with a golden angle of 16 degrees. This sloping pillow with excellent sculpting curve not only can fit the spine, but can provide an ideal support to three important areas—the head/neck, the shoulders and the upper thoracic vertebrae. Besides, the groove design in the middle of the pillow allows a sleeper to maintain the best position during sleep. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The length of the pillow 51.5cm can perfectly fit the head, neck, shoulders, and upper thoracic vertebrae to the fourth and fifth vertebra. And the width of the pillow 66cm can support the neck and shoulders with a wider contact to reduce the pressure of the body during sleep. All these can provide an unrivalled sleeping experience. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in Taiwan in November 2019, and was completed in Taipei, Taiwan in October 2020, and was launched in Taipei, Taiwan in November 2020. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The intelligently designed pillow with a golden angle can provide 16 degrees, which may support and relax the head, neck and shoulders. With relaxation of these three parts, sleepers may enjoy comfortable and excellent sleeping quality. With exclusive hydrophilic memory foam, the pillow material can absorb the moisture discharged from the human body, and balance the surrounding humidity and keep the same softness at all temperatures. With exceptional decompression and softness as well as a slow rebounding effect, the pillow can perfectly fit the body curve and provide the most comfortable support to the head, neck, and thoracic spine. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 51.5cmx66cmx14/5cm± TAGS: Pillow, Supine-sleep, Home, Angle, Hunchback-Friendly RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The clinical research indicates more than 80% of people having health problems such as hunchback, neck stiffness, and cervical disc herniation contributing from longtime work pressure and using phones incorrectly. Collaborating with Yang-Ming Healthcare, we have intelligently designed the most suitable height and angle of the pillow based on the data collected from nearly ten thousand consumers. Yang-Ming did the sculpting of the pillow, and HOLA manually developed molds for production with an aim to address the sleeping problems of modern people. CHALLENGE: The enormous challenge facing the production team was how to achieve the golden angle of 16 degrees by shaping the hydrophilic memory foam into minimal thicknesses. A mold has difficulties shaping into 1cm thickness; nevertheless, thanks to the production team’s tireless efforts, after dozens of trial-and-error testing, the team eventually made a breakthrough in penetrating the thickness limitation, and reached 1cm thickness.
