| DESIGN NAME: Side PRIMARY FUNCTION: Conference Chair INSPIRATION: After about 30 years of commitment in the design activity, and many of these involved in the design for seating, this project is the result of a great knowledge of both functions and form. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Stackable, easy to connect, with or without a self-returning writing tablet, Side is an ideal chair for seminars, training courses and conferences, but even for meetings or waiting. The design of the monocoque body, the elastic backrest, the soft upholstery of the seat guarantees extremely high comfort. Side is available in many colors, with or without armrests, writing tablet, row connectors, and four legs with fixed feet or with casters. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This is a “contract” chair, for use in public spaces, such as meeting rooms and waiting areas, in general it is transformed with a practical tablet, becoming a small workstation. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project startet in March 2020 in Ponsacco (PI) and finished in March 2021 in Ponsacco (PI) and presented in March 2021 at the 47th CIFF (China International Furniture Fair) in Guangzhou, China FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Office Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Side is composed by a monocoque plastic body available in different colors and a mixed framework made of aluminium and other metals. Ergonomic design with the elastic chair back made of new PP material, comfortably support the waist. Appropriate support can effectively relieve human body pressure. Functional solutions like the easy aggregation system and the availability of a tablet fitted well into the design. The decision of developing a monocoque body gave us the possibility of creating a big family of products: Side is available with a lot of different basis such as sled, four legs, five spokes with wheels and so on. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: without armrests: 560mm x 530mm x 525mm with armrests: 560mm x 530mm x 525mm with armrests and tablet: 560mm x 530mm x 525mm TAGS: chair, conference chair, contract chair, multipurpose chair, connectable chair, stackable chair, writing tablet, meeting room, reading room, training room RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The request was to create a contract chair with metal supporting structure and seat-backrest in plastic material; its armrests have a strong support to support the side tablet (aluminum painted in various colors). CHALLENGE: The challenge is always the same: being able to create a product that is beautiful to look at, with reasonable production costs to reach a fair final price to be competitive on the international markets. NAME: Huy Furniture PROFILE: Huy Furniture started from the hardware accessories workshop in Xiqing Industrial Park, Longjiang Town, Foshan City. At the beginning, we were engaged in production and sales of office chairs, hardware, plastic accessories and other raw materials. Nevertheless, we had a tremendously curious spirit, which lead us to discover fields we never believed possible. After a lot of hardwork, we became a global company, focusing on training seats, because training means helping people to be better, and we want to be part of our user’s learning processes. Even though we have outgrown who we were in the beginning, our restless spirit continues to move on. Whether it is to define new technologies for training seats, enhance the training experience, or foresee new training methods, we are commited to exploring and finding the ideal training space to make ideas become reality. We like to work as a bridge between science and design, finding the balance between people, space and furniture. |
