| DESIGN NAME: Oriental Fairyland PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence INSPIRATION: The design referred to four popular activities often depicted in famous paintings of Song Dynasty, including "hanging paintings", "tea ceremony", "flower arranging" and "burning incense", which are incorporated into interior decorations through modern interpretation of forms, colors and culture. From those famous paintings, the furniture of Song Dynasty reveals simplicity in shape, with few decorations, and neat, square and straight in style. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: In light of the profound history and cultural context of the site, the design employed "Elegance-Song Style" as the spatial theme. The designers aimed to present the integration of Song-style exquisiteness and furniture pieces with the concept of modern living, and carried out further creation on decoration articles such as paintings. In addition, the team drew inspiration from classic artworks of Song Dynasty, intending to incorporate Song-style aesthetics into the modern residence. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Considering the specific situation of the site as well as the master planning and landscape of the residential community, the privacy of the space gradually increases from bottom to top, with 1F and 2F functioning as socializing areas for enjoying tea and hosting banquets while the top floor accommodating a private bedroom suite. The design pursued the integration and symbiosis between space and environment by using natural and recyclable materials (wood mainly and metal as a supplement). PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The design team simplified the construction procedure to negate environmental impact, and optimized spatial layout to introduce natural scenery and abundant daylight in a bid to reduce energy consumption while ensuring a pleasant living environment. The upholstery of furniture is made of environmentally friendly artificial microfiber leather, which is waterproof, fireproof, wear-resistant and dirt-resistant, hence realizing an artistic, humanistic style in interior furnishings. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Project Area: 240sqm Tpye: residence TAGS: GT.DECO, Elegance Song Style, Song-style aesthetics, Simplicity, Quaint, Sustainable, residence RESEARCH ABSTRACT: As the style and theme of each floor were positioned specifically, the designers collected a variety of textual and graphic data regarding philosophy, furniture, painting and tea art of Song Dynasty to provide a thorough and comprehensive support for the design. In the end, the team created a series of aesthetic scenes defined by the tones of Chinese ink-wash paintings and natural textures, and meanwhile brought in original articles to add to the spatial ambience. CHALLENGE: 1. The particular site, surrounded by natural scenery, posed a challenge to furniture transportation. Weight of wooden furniture and damages might occur during transportation needed considering in advance. 2. Interior decoration design and execution had to be coordinated with the master planning and other professions like engineering, landscape and construction. If one step was delayed or started over due to imperfect details, the schedule and execution of the overall project would be affected.
