| DESIGN NAME: Dragon Boat Festival Packaging PRIMARY FUNCTION: Gift Box INSPIRATION: It was inspired by the Dragon Boat Sacrificial Ceremony, by which the ancient Chinese prayed to stars and gods for the eradication of diseases and bumper harvest. The outer box is designed with a dragon as the main body, with the shape of mugwort leaves outlining the torso of the dragon and the grains of the reed leaves as the scales of the dragon body. While the inner box adopts a packaging of two dragons holding Zongzi, which means double luck in Chinese culture. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Dragon Boat, a traditional symbol of the Chinese Dragon Boat Festival, as well as an ideology that people wish to eradicate diseases, is the origin of this packaging. Thus, the elements of Dragon Boat, Zongzi and mugwort are integrated into the outer packaging and the inner box to convey benedictions, especially against the backdrop of Covid-19. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: When users lift the box lid, the independent four sides of the inner box will be unfolded by gravity, which looks like a suddenly risen curtain. In this work, with totems, festival rituals and Dragon Boat scenes as the theme, traditions and characteristics of the Dragon Boat Festival are presented through multi-layered three-dimensional patterns and layered cardboard. On the Dragon Boat Festival, the Eastern Star, representing the Azure Dragon will rise to the sky, which is called Dragon skies in Chinese classical astrology. As the Azure Dragon is in the highest position, affair will also reach acme. Therefore, Wu Yue tribes whose totem is the dragon will hold a grand totem sacrifice to pray for the eradication of epidemics and influenza and the fortune of the world. CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge is the integration of traditional cultural elements and packaging, which not only brings users visual experiences, but provides them with an interactive using process.
