| DESIGN NAME: Bada PRIMARY FUNCTION: Chair INSPIRATION: The increasing sitting time - Modern people spend a lot of time sitting everyday. Compared to the standing position, sitting down on the chair causes twice the pressure on the lower back, which is a major cause of lumbar disk disease(herniated disks). During COVID-19, as the time spent at home increased, sitting for a long time has become a routine. To avoid sitting on a chair for an extended period of time with a sloppy posture, a change in your sitting posture periodically is needed. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A chair that allows you to fix your posture through the discomfort - Bada is a chair that allows its users to sit by changing their posture regularly through discomfort. Obviously, it is uncomfortable when the users’ sitting positions are changed involuntarily. However, on the other hand, this designed discomfort can keep them healthy and maintain the correct posture. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Modern people spend a lot of time sitting. Sitting for a long period of time causes various lower back problems. Therefore, you need to change your posture regularly while you are sitting. Bada is a chair that allows you to be able to fix your posture through discomfort. As the users’ sitting positions turn into a bad posture, their bodies will slide slowly, then they will be forced to change their posture. As a result, the designed discomfort feeling is able to help the users stay in a healthy and correct sitting posture. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Rotation & Slide The crooked posture rotates the seat plate and creates an inclination. Hence, the inclination created by the rotation gradually lowers the user's position. This leaves the user no choice but to change their sitting posture. 1.The usual sitting posture 2.losing of posture, the seat is tilted 3.correcting sitting posture Material - White oak solid (body) Stainless steel (CD-Bar) SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: W500mm x D580mm x H750 mm TAGS: Chair, Affordance, Wood, Wood chair RESEARCH ABSTRACT: We needed to figure out the appropriate slope to make the posture uncomfortable when the posture is bent, although it is usually not uncomfortable. We found an appropriate slope while producing prototypes using isopink and prototypes using wood.Based on the seat with a height of W450 mm × D450 mm × H450 mm, the slope of 8 degrees was judged to be the most appropriate and the result was significant. CHALLENGE: The entire shape of the chair is designed in a way that the curves meet each other with a purpose to metaphorically express the process of the seat rotation leading to slope and sliding.It was particularly difficult because it was the first time to make a chair using wood, and there were many trials and errors because it was possible to make a form only by knowing the properties of the material.
