| DESIGN NAME: Shining Glass PRIMARY FUNCTION: Table Lamp INSPIRATION: The faceted glass beautifully reflects receiving the light from outside and soothes the soul of those who drink with it. Such an idea was coming up with that a favorite glass could also become a lampshade and create a beautiful light effect in a different way by reflecting from the light inside. And it is found out that the best way is to be totally designed with the feeling of transparency of glass by using the lamp base of faceted glass. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The table lamp is designed to use a faceted drinking glass as a lampshade without any modification. The lampshade holder has the unique semicircular arm structure connected to a jig that securely holds the bottom of the glass between the inside and the outside. Both the holder and base are seamlessly made of faceted glass. The favorite faceted drinking glass can be used as a part of the lamp which is realized with a harmonious structure of oneness to create lighting effect to enrich daily life. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: It is very easy to install a faceted drinking glass for a lampshade in the table lamp shown in the optional image #4. First, you can take the drinking glass in your hand (upper left image) and insert it between the rubber pad of the semicircular arm and the other rubber pad of the jig (upper right and lower left images). Finally, you can securely lock the bottom of the glass with screws (lower right image). And also, you can enjoy the very variety of the table lamp because you can choose your favorite faceted drinking glass shown in the optional image #3. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2021 in Tokushima, Japan and finished in December 2021, and the design got a utility model right on September 30th 2020 in Japan. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Both the lamp base and the arm of lampshade holder are seamlessly made of faceted glass. The jig for holding the faceted glass and the adjustment of the lampshade holder are easily locked with screws. The power feeder cable is provided in the lamp base and the arm of lampshade holder. The structure of the object is designed to meet the artistic atmosphere of totally harmonized faceted glass as if it is a glass peaceful swan. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The product dimensions are as follows: In the main image and the optional image #1, the table lamp is about 40cm in width and 39cm in height. In the optional image #3, the semicircular arm of the lampshade holder is 9cm in diameter and it can hold any faceted drinking glass of less than 8cm in diameter and 7cm in height. And the optional image #2 shows the outline of the lamp is clearly projected by a pedestal with a light ring. TAGS: table lamp, lampshade, faceted glass, cutglass, glassart RESEARCH ABSTRACT: In order to realize the project Shining Glass, it was necessary to invent the mechanism which satisfies the function of holding a drinking glass without any modification such as drilling and providing power feeder cable inconspicuously. And the base of the lamp is necessary to realize the unique semi-circular arm structure to hold faceted drinking glass. CHALLENGE: It took a long time to invent the mechanism of easily holding and locking a drinking glass by making some prototypes. The problem was solved by a simple screw locking mechanism, although it was difficult to lock the drinking glass so as not to stress the power feeder cable. And the lamp base is created by glassblowing with the cooperation of staffs (Mr. Bitou, Mr. Toda and Ms. Watanabe) of the Tokushima Glass Studio.
