PRIMARY FUNCTION: Hair Claw
INSPIRATION: Matsuura co ., ltd has been making hair accessories for more than 140 years and it is important mission for them to develop something totally new.
Recently most of hair accessories are already developed enough and we haven't seen unique and functional new products for long time. It was important mission for them to create something new and functional products for this industry to keep progress. Polygon hair claw has a concept of "Back to the simple and functional" . Based on this concept they made this unique products.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Polygon hair claw is not the same hair claw as you see usual. Its unique shape of prong and placement enable to catch the hair more than normal hair claw. They got patent for this unique prong shape and placement in U.S and Japan.
This time they made its collection with aluminium which reduce the weight much more than previous metal claw. Therefore it holds and stay longer also ease the pain from the weight claw has. Polygon hair claw is the first hair claw ever made with aluminium.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: First they studied which function and design can be popular hair claw from their past sales data. then they figured out what is the best shape and function to catch the hair most. Then they develop this idea to the 3D CAD data. Then they casting several times and try using its prototype for 3years.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2018 in Japan

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: It is designed with CAD. Then make rubber mold then casting.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: They studied popular styles and reviews from our past sales data and found out specific character among them , then they figured out what they need to have and don't for function. After that they made prototype using 3D CAD and made samples with 3D printer. Once they confirm how it works, made prototype with casting metal. After prototype is ready send them all to hair stylist and check if it holds well or not.
CHALLENGE: Placement of prongs since it is new challenging of reallocate the place of prongs, it takes several years to find the perfect position and degree of prongs.
