| DESIGN NAME: Beijing Pageone Wudaokou PRIMARY FUNCTION: Bookstore INSPIRATION: The lighting design bases on the simple and clean interior design and the modern style of the building facade, takes advantage of the light colored materials to welcome guests in a relaxed atmosphere where they can, under a warm and soft lighting, immerse themselves into an ocean of words from their favorite readings, food and beverage. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: PAGEONE is a unique bookstore which is not only selling books, but also holding exhibition and lectures. PAGEONE Wudaokou is located at the densest area of universities in Beijing, most crowd around are staffs of surrounding company and students. LDPi worked on the lighting design to make a comfortable place for the readers and used lots of flexible lights to fit the different functions. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: As it is a bookstore, its operation remains in the hand of the property management of the client. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The bookshelf lighting is a key element of this project as they appeal to visitors' eyes to find their favorite readings. Each of the three type of bookshelves has a different wattage per meter based on functionality: the standard bookshelves with standard linear light, the taller bookshelves facing the glass curtain wall that need more visibility using a higher wattage per meter lighting and finally bookshelves that need accent lighting with the highest wattage per meter. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: LED linear light (Power 10W/m beam angle 37 degree 3000K color rendering index above 90) Embedded down light with adjustable angle (Power 15W beam angle 38 degree 3000K color rendering index above 90) TAGS: PAGEONE, LDPi, Beijing, Wudaokou, Bookstore, Lighting Design, Reading Space, Flexible Design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Lighting simulation were necessary to complete the detailed design of this project. Several rounds of mock-ups involving the shelves' manufacturer and the lighting manufacturer were necessary to select the optimal lighting effects. CHALLENGE: As this is a renovation project, the existing facade did not have a lighting scheme. Nevertheless, by night, the interior glow gets through the glass curtain making the building eye-catching.
