DESIGN NAME: Shadow Trail
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residential
INSPIRATION: The clients wanted a space that emits the feeling of a model house. Hence, the lightings and cabinets are carefully designed with an exhibition-like style, while the low and soft sofa furnishings are paired with the grayscale colors of the ceiling, flooring, and walls. Furthermore, different materials in the same tonal are used to create a deep and layered home space that meets the clients expectation of having a rich-colored living environment.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project is a new living space for a young couple. Since they wanted to decrease the ratio of light-colored elements, and the original base is equipped with large French windows to draw lightings, the designer applied orange colors, stylish chandeliers, and sleek metal strips to create a refreshing and fashionable interior. At the same time, low furnishings are placed to create a more magnified and expansive feeling visually.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: After discussing with the owner, the designer specially applied dark colors that represent calm and steady as the leading tones. At the same time, orange colors are used to decorate the low-chroma interior to lighten the space while increasing vitality. Furthermore, aluminum frames and gray glasses are used on the bedroom cabinets to create diversity and layers under the same tonal of grey.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in October 2020 and finished in December 2020 in Taipei, Taiwan.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: Although this design is based on a model house concept, functionality also needs to be considered. Hence, the designer has designed the exterior wisely while giving practical functions to the space. Meanwhile, the stackings of materials have helped to shape a continuous and integrated configuration. As for the bedroom, additional customized storage functions are set up to provide space to store suitcases and large quilts.
CHALLENGE: Even though the space was initially equipped with large French windows, the advantage was also one of the critical factors to be considered when arranging the configuration. The designer also had to overcome the challenges of creating a harmonious spatial feeling while maintaining the balance between light efficiency and functionality. Since Fengshui and functionality have to be considered, the designer hid one of them in the walls and left the other to be exposed.
