DESIGN DETAILS |
DESIGN NAME: Koji Saryo
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cafe
INSPIRATION: The materials, colors, and forms of the café were inspired by the heat of koji fermentation and the traditional architecture of Uonuma, the company’s hometown in northern Japan, where snow can pile up over three meters high in winter.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Sweet sake and rice malt café. The space has been created in motif of the rice malt production; the vivid warmth from fermentation when the microorganisms are decomposed. By placing the symbolic red crop at eye-level in the center of the store, the color gap before entering strengthens, while it also gradually changes as you look outdoors. The sequence of this color change is the design of the store.
