| DESIGN NAME: 601 PRIMARY FUNCTION: Lounge Chair INSPIRATION: While designing this modern lounge chair the main inspiration was early 1900 industrial furniture production. The design was thought out to be modern, elegant, and timeless. I was looking to create a lounge chair that can fit any corporate or residential environment. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The lounge chair finds its most unique feature on the structural design that generates comfort and sturdiness. The upholstery conceals a steady wood frame that supports both back and seating cushions. it is mounted and fix on top of a wood leg frame. The arm rest are connected to the upholstery back support and to the wood leg frame by stainless or aluminum hardware. This contemporary elegant design has the quality to minimize excessive stress point on the lounge chair to generating a better seating experience and many years of use. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This lounge chair design has the characteristic of distributing forces generated by the user into four elements. This means less stress point that can fail or brake. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: the project was design in 6 months in Guatemala city during 2020 FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Furniture Design |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Reinforced upholstery frame over handcrafted wood base. Wooden arms attached to reinforced upholstery frame on the back and to the wood leg frame by machine-made stainless-steel supports. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: 650mm X 750mm X 800mm TAGS: lounge chair, functional design, furniture, modern design, contemporary design RESEARCH ABSTRACT: the design is the result of many hours of research about: the history of furniture during 1840-1930 The design movements from ornaments to functionalist design the evolution of production methods from crafts to industrial. CHALLENGE: The most challenging aspect in the design process was the prototyping tests. Lounge chairs require of many prototypes and tests to generate the desire comfort.
