DESIGN NAME: Concentric Circle
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Interior Design
INSPIRATION: Home is a permanent haven for the family where unite the people as a whole. In this case, the designer uses the idea of concentric circles to interpret the spatial movement, aiming to link family boundary through the design, through the guidance of space, to increase more interaction and communication between family members.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The living room is the center of the circle, and the design of the space creates a family centripetal force. The half-circle design on both sides of the TV wall symbolizes the embrace and care of the family. The living space is designed in an open style, using glass sliding doors to define spatial attributes, and flexible use according to the needs of the residents in terms of usability, taking into account both functionality and interaction. The study, living room, and dining room are arranged on the same axis, and the circular arrangement is used to link all the home spaces, making the living room the core of the family.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The half-height TV wall is used as a partition between the living room and the entrance hall, providing a flowing circulation for the spaces and taking the living room as the core of the space, like embracing, through the convergence of space. Transparent sliding doors are used to separate the common areas on the same axis, giving flexibility for usage and sharing light through the use of permeable materials, allowing each separate space to remain connected and interactive.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This project is located in Hsinchu County, Taiwan. Started in July 2020 and be completed in July 2021.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The design of concentric circles is used to link all the spaces, and the half-wall design and glass sliding doors are used to open up the vision of the space. The living room with TV is placed in the center of the apartment to solve the problem of sunlight reflecting on the TV during the day, while leaving the natural light to the study by the window.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The entire apartment is 198.3 square meters, with four bedrooms with balconies, a study, a living room, a kitchen and a dining room. The designer use Benjamin Moore zero-formaldehyde, zero-PVOC latex paint to keep formaldehyde below 0.04 in the whole apartment, which is easy to clean and maintain, and use Taiwan-made system furniture and kitchenware to reduce the footprint of transportation.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: While maintaining the independence of the space, the interaction between the family members is enhanced, allowing the family's emotions to spread in each space and then coalesce in the living room, allowing the family to strike a balance between emotional communication and independent privacy through the design.
CHALLENGE: How to balance the different style preferences and living habits of the family members, coordinate the different elements in this space, and transform it into an aesthetic home space is the biggest challenge of this project. By transforming the layout, reinterpreting the spatial scale and boundaries, using penetrating materials and lines to extend the visualization of the space, and generating spatial centripetal force through the design, the family connections are united in this space.
