DESIGN DETAILS
DESIGN NAME:
The Hulking Mist

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Residential

INSPIRATION:
The designer rearranged the spatial, transform each area traffic flow, and matched with different materials to create a harmonious and continuous tonal that achieved the perfect balance between space and nature. The kitchen area is specially designed as a spinout shape, not only to be created as the center of the structure that gathers family members but also broken through the original limitations to create an expansive spatial feeling.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
To maximize the space usage, the original spatial that contained four rooms and two master bedrooms is transformed into three rooms and a single master bedroom; meanwhile, a study is created to give more flexibility to the family members. The cohesion of the entryway and the public area is applied with the same materials to achieve continuous and smooth borders. A functional shoe cabinet area and a connected glass sliding door to the kitchen are designed to break through the dullness of standard interior designs. The living room, the study, and the dining room are all designed with an open-end method.

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
This project has cut half of the original spatial arrangement; four rooms and three bathrooms were rearranged into three rooms and two bathrooms. A study is built, and the kitchen and dining room are increased within the public area that applied the open-end method; it allows the area to accommodate 6-10 guests to dine simultaneously. Wooden tones, grey colors, hardware, and other elements with natural techniques are used to connect with the sufficient daylight and mountain sceneries nearby; a house that forever contains a vacation vibe is created.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
The project started in March 2020 and finished in November 2020 in Xindian District, New Taipei City.

FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY:

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES:
The overall is applied with simple colors such as grey, white, earth tones, and grey-blue as the design core; blue artistic tiles are also specially expanded throughout the wall behind the dining table that creates an ocean-like scenery. Natural daylight will be mainly used during lighting designs at night using ceiling-embedded lightings that spread out the residence will be used during nights. The cabinets of the public area are paired with a marble-made countertop that is embedded with a simulated fireplace underneath, highlighting the vacation-like atmosphere for the space.

TAGS:
Grey color tones, modern style, first-hand house, nature connection, vacation style.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
The 35-ping space is equipped with three rooms, two living rooms, two bathrooms, two adults, and one child living. The semi-open-end method has rearranged the traffic flow smoothly while maximizing the balance between spatial and natural scenery advantages. The kitchen and dining room are built with glass sliding doors that give flexibility to the room, while the integral exhausting smoke system allows the public area to prevent oil and smoke when cooking.

CHALLENGE:
Within this narrow and long space, transparent window sceneries are designed to infuse the traffic flow with the lighting arrangements. The semi-open-end spatial has connected the dining table and the desk behind the living room through the kitchen island, creating flexibility for three areas. Rotated spatial arrangements are used by making the kitchen the center of the space; the freely switchable design is created through the sliding doors that maximize that public area usage. Furthermore, sufficient cabinets are placed within the metal-imitated tiles and grey-blue paints that lightens the overall vista.
