DESIGN NAME:
BT Space
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Office Design
INSPIRATION:
This project is located in Beitou District in the northern Taiwan and was the result of the reflection and evolution of the local culture. Inspired by floating, the aim was to create an architectural appearance that blended with the environment and interacted with it.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The design is combination of humanity, history and environment to create a modern commercial space. The steel was used to support the main body of the building, and the suspended staircase extended upward to enhance the visual strength, presenting a sleek, suspended and light appearance of the building. Combining the recycled materials of the old building, the designer used transparent light boxes and cold metal materials to create a penetrating space, presenting a modern space full of humanity.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION:
The designer retained the elements of the old building and regenerated and utilized them as the screens of the meeting area. The designer covered the old iron window grilles with glass and installed the lighting function in it, reflecting its beautiful patterns, creating a sense of rhythm through light and shadow, and serving as a partition between meeting spaces. This became the main focus of the room.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION:
This project is located in Beitou District, Taipei City. Started in in January 2021 and be completed in March 2021.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY:
As there were other buildings next to it, the space underneath the elevated building could space up the pedestrian road, while providing the main space on the upper floor to be separated from the street and allowing the transparent space to remain private. At this height, people could enjoy the view of the forest park and the mountains. The designer used the metallic ironwork with mineral paint to give the interior space a textured and broader appearance, while the exterior was finished with tempered glass.

The two story building has a total of 274.38 square meters of interior space.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT:
Beitou district has a history of Japanese culture where this project is located in, and the hot spring culture was brought into this area T the Japanese colonized period. Therefore, in the configuration of the space, the designer placed grass futons, a symbolic meaning of the Japanese era, so that the history existed in the modern design and form a contrast, bringing a visual impact.
CHALLENGE:
The design aims to be people-oriented and combined with history and the environment, while constructing a space and building without losing commercial value and highlighting its humanistic meaning.

I am absolutely in awe of BT Space! It is so evident that a lot of effort and thought has been put into the design of this office space. The ingenious use of colors and textures is really remarkable. I am absolutely in awe of this outstanding work! "BT Space" is an exquisite combination of modern design elements and traditional culture. The designer has managed to create a space that is both commercial yet deeply rooted in its humanistic values. The use of recycled materials from the old building, transparent light boxes and cold metal materials has resulted in a striking visual contrast that is a pleasure to behold. I'm in awe of Chia Chen Chang's award-winning work, "BT Space". The combination of humanity, history and environment to create a modern commercial space is truly remarkable and visually stunning. From the suspended staircase that enhances the visual strength of the building, to the use of recycled materials of the old building, the designer has done an incredible job of transforming a traditional space into something modern and unique.
I'm also inspired by the research that went into the project. By incorporating elements of Japanese culture into the design, Chia Chen Chang has cleverly used history to create a space that is visually striking and has a strong connection to its local culture.
Overall, this is a remarkable piece of work, and I'm very impressed by Chia Chen Chang's creative vision and design talent.
