| DESIGN NAME: Irreversible Forward PRIMARY FUNCTION: Exhibition Spaces INSPIRATION: Inspired by the reflection and recall on ethnic craftsmanship that has faded over time, the project is designed as a TIME TUNNEL exhibition to convey the desire for a revival of ethnic craftsmanship. With each element of the work carrying respect and admiration for the aesthetic achievements of ancients, the original intention of the design is to inherit the Chinese ethnic craftsmanship and folk art and add modern connotations, so they can keep their vitality while keeping up with the times. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: IRREVERSIBLE FORWARD is an experiential cultural art exhibition. Inspired by the ancient Chinese Bampo site, the designer reproduces the artistic triangular totem of the Bampo clan with wooden strips to form this art gallery. The novel artistic expression connects the past future of brand, and blends traditional folk art with modern connotations, representing a respect and tribute to classical aesthetics and determination and attitude to insist on originality, art and cultural inheritance. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: A two-way light is placed at the entrance, visitors will see a green light when they enter, and a red light if they turn back, which is a detailed design that means that they can only go forward but cannot turn back, subtly echoing the title. The gallery is lined with wall art and handbags to guide visitors from the past to future plans of the brand, providing a step-by-step experience with scene changing. The light and shadow not only gives the exhibition more layers, but a unique aesthetic. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The exhibition was held from November 09 to November 12, 2018 in Chengdu, China. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: Common, recycled and renewable square cedar wood and gypsum board are chosen as the materials for the exhibition. The TIME TUNNEL themed art gallery is made up of interlocked and stacked materials that utilize the stability of triangles and other mechanical principles. The extrusion and interpenetration between the wooden columns share the force and make it stable. The exhibits include iconic wall art and handbags from various periods of the history, echoing the title IRREVERSIBLE FORWARD. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: - TAGS: - RESEARCH ABSTRACT: A survey reveals that many young people blindly pursue trends while neglecting ethnic culture, leading to the decay of traditional folk arts. The rise of the new Chinese Fad is reawakening their love for traditional culture, but how to express Chinese culture by modernity is a proposition that designers must think about. Making artistry and structure of Chinese culture visually impressive also prevails. Our aspiration in this exhibition is to express confidence of Chinese culture to the world. CHALLENGE: With creativity, interaction and innovation as exhibition design core and a unique blend of oriental culture and fashion, the brand presents the vitality and charm of folk art with an integration of contemporary video, lighting, live-action construction and modern art installations. Also, a variety of artistic handbags are displayed as a carrier of ethnic culture, allowing more people to understand Chinese culture and folk art and promoting innovation in the cultural and creative industries.
