| DESIGN NAME: Authenticity PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence INSPIRATION: Inspired by the concept of Wabi-sabi, a lifestyle originated from Japanese aesthetics, the designer creates a residence second to none. With help of a 40-year-old craftsmanship experience, the designer portrays the pure, yet extraordinary joy of life, by the colors and luster of wood. Material combinations of darker tones set up a clear and neat space, offering also a great amount of storage space for the residents' needs. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Tranquility and Zen as its theme, the design aims to offer a big amount of storage room and a quality life. In order to make the space visually comfortable, the designer simplifies combinations that might get complicated, applying different structures to layer up the space while avoiding using too many colors. Steel items and wooden materials of darker palette creates a rough yet graceful atmosphere. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: Dark-colored wood with greyish black tone of the living room is spacious and luminous, accompanied with greenery on the balcony. The designer makes a good use of corner space to turn it into a sphere of tranquil comfy cafe. With natural lights shining in, this corner is a detail of the space that embodies the best of how a cozy and satisfying life could be like. Little details in a precisely neat space, dark grey hue with a few red items decorating, show the effort the designer puts in. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The texture of the floor beautifully separates the public space into two different areas; wood spreads out in the living room with a gentle vibe for relaxation while black stone naturally draws attention to the dining area. A glass brick wall, with a great amount of natural lights and various-colored lights embedded in the space, both serve to light up the darker-colored tone. Clear transition of textures smoothly transforms scenarios in the semi-open space. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: This project is 132 square meter. TAGS: Interior, Zen, Tranquility, Authenticity, Wabi-sabi RESEARCH ABSTRACT: With abundant natural light introduced in, the space is designed close to the residents' habits. While making sure the quality and aesthetic of the space, the control systems of lighting, sound, air and temperature are also applied for the owner to manage. The use of water-proof materials, eco-friendly and bug-proof veneers make sure the daily living environment is safe and comfortable. Each corner of the design allows the residents to appreciate the space anytime, while sharing one's care and blessing with others. CHALLENGE: The space is decorated with eco-friendly materials that are low-in-formaldehyde and bug-resistant, making sure to offer a comfortable and safe non-toxic living space. The use of water-proof materials reduces chances to accidentally ruin the original interior decoration and the need to replace it. Furthermore, a straightforward design without over-decorating not only calms the residents down with its zen aesthetic, it also reduces possible excessive waste. NAME: MAO GUO Interior&Decoration Design Ltd. PROFILE: Mao Guo’s core value “essence” is a combination of “wood” and “one” in Chinese characters, pursuing ways to combine tradition and innovation. With 40 years of outstanding inherited woodworking craftsmanship, they know how to use professional skills and experience to integrate traditional aesthetics with cutting-edge technology. Since Mao Guo has its own carpenter team and factory, they could directly respond to customers’ needs and offer the best design solutions. While marrying woodworking with innovation as its process, the Chinese character “Ben" is the result of it, that they always remember the original intention, the essence, the reason why one started to design. The main concept of Mao Guo’s design is “conversation through ideas.” The spatial construction should not be just black and white. Mao Guo cares more about the connection between people. Thus, by focusing on how to integrate objects and abstract elements such as perceptions, emotions, experience, memory into the space, design can boost conversations and interactions between space and people. Mao Guo insists on keeping the diversity, combining physical and psychological aspects of design, creating a place that is meaningful to people. Thus, where there is life, there is a meaning. |
