DESIGN NAME: Golden Hill Delicates
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Restaurant
INSPIRATION: The designer drew inspiration from Wen Zhengming's painting Peach Blossom Spring and Tang Yin's painting Fishermen in Reclusion among Mountains and Streams. The designer wanted each private room to reflect its own individuality. Unlike other dining spaces, Golden Hill Delicates incorporates the "Peach Blossom Spring" into the space, rather than simply printing it on the wall.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The project is a 12,000 square metre restaurant located in downtown Beijing. Just like the scene depicted in Tao Yuanming's prose masterpiece Peach Blossom Spring, Golden Hill Delicates is like a secluded peach blossom garden, a secret garden hidden away in the busy city, as if in a painting.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The design of this case draws on the design of the Master of the Nets Garden, making full use of the complex and varied characteristics of the space, turning the difficulties into advantages, using stairs and viewing lawns to link and connect the various spaces, adopting a combination of reality and imagination.
PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in May 2019 in Shenzhen and finished in September 2020 in Beijing.
FITS BEST INTO CATEGORY: Interior Space and Exhibition Design

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The designer has used natural elements such as mountains, stones and bamboos to give the space a view every step of the way, achieving the effect of shifting the scenery; he has used calligraphy, paintings, porcelain, ornaments and brick carvings to re-frame and integrate them, reflecting the traditional cultural flavour with modern decorative techniques.
SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The area is 12,000 square metres.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The design reflects the "Peach Blossom Spring" that the designer had in mind - elegant but not extravagant, simple but not ugly, and distinctive. The modern design approach is a new interpretation of ancient charm and modern aesthetics, allowing diners to feel the rhyme and the meaning.
CHALLENGE: The design is based on the elements of Suzhou and Yangzhou gardens, with reference to the essence of the paintings of the Four Masters of Ming (Shen Zhou, Wen Zhengming, Tang Yin and Qiu Ying), and expresses a rustic classical flavour through modern design techniques. The traditional elements are consciously refined, processed, abstracted, deformed, simplified and recombined, and innovative changes are made in the inheritance.
