DESIGN NAME: Third Space
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence
INSPIRATION: In addition to the working space and home everyone needs a third space to be alone or released. The bistro is not only a leisure place for social gatherings, but also plays a vital role in cultural and commercial activities. This kind of popular "Third Space'' creates uniqueness through interior design, light conversion, and decoration. The charming atmosphere also shows people's spiritual sustenance and pursuit in space and interpersonal relationships.
UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: Take "Third Space'' as the design concept and redefine the interactive relationship in the residential space. This project transforms the flow of living into the performance flow in bistros, and divides the space into three areas: stage, practice and rest area. Also use the method called postmodernism that combines new and old elements to the overall design.
OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The overall space metaphors the history and culture of the old city with dark coffee veneer, classical line board and retro decoration. The "stage area" uses the living room and dining room as a performance space. It’s opened by European-style retro chandeliers and the light hidden in the glass cabinets on both sides with the blue-green sofas to create a tipsy atmosphere. The study is positioned as a "practice area". With scattered transparent shelves and black leather chairs, build a quiet place like an intermission. The "rest area" is transformed into an exclusive space for the bedroom. Through the interlacing of dark and light wallpapers, it seems rough and straightforward. Actually, it is precisely measured to convey the level and detail, allowing the mind to completely relax and focus on oneself, forming a luxury lifestyle.

RESEARCH ABSTRACT: The project is located near the historic Laojie River and has gradually developed into a prime urban area now. In view of the unique geomancy, the owner hopes to connect the regional image with urban life, create a more balanced life, stimulate the relationship between individual and space, so that the souls surrender to the timelessness and show a diverse representation of daily life and spatial contours.
CHALLENGE: In order to create the sensory illusion of "Third Space'' in this house, the whole room uses postmodernism techniques like collaging, overlapping, and dislocation to create a musical memory and life stream. The stage area is an eye-opening social place, the practice area is calm and restrained, and the rest area is for release and enjoyment. Through the structure, materials and atmosphere, it is blended into a smooth "Third Space", creating a more interactive and diverse possibility.
