| DESIGN NAME: Precipitation of Light PRIMARY FUNCTION: Residence INSPIRATION: In this modern wabi-sabi, the subtle off-white covers a large area to spread out a timeless, stable and comfortable living space, giving the place the purest peace. Displaying the texture of nature to the fullest with the coating and creating an unified, ethereal visual experience to present the primitive lifestyle like living in an ancient cave or the tranquillity like being in the desert. The simple plain earth tone colors reveal that people who live here have an eclectic attitude toward life UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The client of this project is a couple who are busy working doctors and live a fast-paced life, so when designing a new house they take ”comfort” as the first priority. Designer used the soft earth tone colors of desert as the base, leading in natural light, cooperating with the coating from the ceiling to the ground and the same color floor tiles shine toward each other. Let the modern and simple natural aesthetics present its healing effect in the pure, comforting, spiritual atmosphere. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: There are lots of arc shapes that were used in pillars, ceiling and corners, with these curved surfaces and arcs to replace the sharp straight edge; soft curved lines weaken the angles in the space. By the combination of lines and colors, the ambience of the space traverses the fancy surface and reveals a true simplicity of beauty that has been time refined in the wabi-sabi world. Showing a pure, clear and lively warmness that can last forever and maintain the utmost respect for “blank”. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project finished in Jan, 2021 in Taipei. PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: We used the gradual grey color coating to present the variety of mottled texture and considered the spatial orientation, achieving a balance between covering and bringing the sunlight. With the daylight softly approaching, retaining a delicate blank and the shape of light and shadow on the wall showing a sense of contrast, the round corner facing the light shows the rich depth and texture of the coating, as if you can see the sparkle that shines around. Whether the arc shape on the hallway or the ceiling, they all create smooth geometric lines that divide the space and make conversations with the dark and light. SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: Area: total sqm：90 interior sum：82.5 exterior sqm：7.5 The mineral coatings that extract from limestone are mostly natural material, so there are no formaldehyde or VOC. Because of the porosity and high air permeability of the lime, moisture is not easy to accumulate. When the season changes from spring to fall, the south monsoon in Taiwan causes condensation on the wall and the moisture adsorption of the mineral coating can avoid humidity, inhibit mold and reduce the mold rate at the same time. Therefore, reducing the chances of having allergies. TAGS: mineral coating, modern, simple, natural material, earth tones, arc RESEARCH ABSTRACT: From the floor, the cabinets to the walls, soft color grey makes great combinations with simple lines in the space, embracing a calm and elegant ambience. By using the natural materials and combining the concise soft furnishings, the arc lines shape out a serene, tender autumn feel. The clever use of indirect lighting gives us a sense of stability. The proportion of storage cabinets divides wisely and the way of arranging them along with the walls presents a stylish and practical simple beauty. CHALLENGE: In order to present the coating that meets the requirement of texture well, we need to perform the construction method precisely and watch the change of middle and base layers of the coating carefully. The hand-brush texture on the wall is made by experienced masters to reflect different light effects and create an ideal sense of depth in the space. The artistry of the coating is essential. The first priority is to consider the order of the process and also protect the edges to avoid damage caused by other processes.
