| DESIGN NAME: Planetary Ring PRIMARY FUNCTION: Meteorite Jewelry INSPIRATION: The Planetary Ring Meteorite Jewelry series is specially designed for young people who travel through the city and yearn for the unknown. This series is made of Swedish M meteorite that fell on the earth billions of years ago, through the model of Planetary Ring and the structural design of bearing rotation, the asteroid is resurrected on the body, and shrunk by hundreds of millions of times. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The Planetary Ring Meteorite Jewelry series includes rings and necklaces, which are originally designed by the jewelry brand of astronomical aesthetics HELIO. It is inspired by Swedish M meteorites – Muonionalustas which are the asteroids that fell on the earth with a history of billions of years. It's cool to wear an asteroid fragment on your body. At the same time, as our body moves, it rotates like a planet with gravity and inertia. Unlike other jewelry, which is still, this design is alive. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: This design is symbolic. Young people wear a meteorite like a planet on their hands, necks or other parts of their bodies, which is different from ordinary rings or necklaces, and expresses their belief in the universe and a supportive attitude of non-sexism. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in April 2020 in Beijin and finished in October 2020 in Beijin, and was exhibited in Taobao in November 2020. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The surface of the "planetary ring"retains the unique "Wedmanster Pattern"of M meteorite,which is generally considered to be a meteorite pattern that cannot be artificially imitated.The round meteorite material has no electroplating anti-oxidation treatment, and the long term wearing surface will produce an oxidation reaction, and the texture effect will change with time. The 925 silver support structure has no welding point with the meteorite and is linked with the bearing structure. The production, assembly, and after sales process are sustainable and eco-friendly. Factors include raw material cost, processing technology, environmental protection, safety, etc. and M meteorite in Sweden was selected. CHALLENGE: There are two challenges in the design of planetary rings.How to polish an iron meteorite into a standard oblate shape, and at the same time, make the surface appear wonderful “Wedmanster pattern”? Grinding into oblate shape by CNC machining, then washing the surface with strong sulfuric acid, causing natural corrosion and forming irregular lines. How to realize the smooth rotation of meteorites and simulate the rotation of planets? A miniature bearing is embedded in the center of the meteorite, and the diameter of the bearing structure is only 1 mm.Only after precise assembly can smooth rotation be realized.
