| DESIGN NAME: Metal PRIMARY FUNCTION: Cup INSPIRATION: The cup is designed for the Japanese outdoor gear brand sunsetclimax, aiming to create a beautiful and elegant shape that is worthy of the brand's concept of a Portable Getaway Villa. Furthermore, striving to provide a product that will be used for a long time, not just something to be consumed, we’ve made it with a simple and beautiful shape and durable materials that you will never get bored of looking at. The sunsetclimax is not a mass-produced brand, but the one that focuses on quality even in small quantities. We have a lineup of products that utilize the skills of excellent Japanese craftsmen and our goal is to ensure Japanese craftsmanship will persist in the future, and to work for consumers who can enjoy products that are packed with these technologies. Products that can be used for a long time are eco-friendliest. The design of the cup is in line with this brand concept. UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: A multi-purpose cup designed for outdoor recreation such as camping It is 100% made in Japan, and produced with care at a factory in Tokyo, one by one. The cup is made of stainless steel 304 with excellent anti-corrosion and is formed into a beautiful shape by a metal spinning process. The finish is bead blasted to maximally enhance the shading of the form. An elegant brand logo is designed on the bottom. You can use the cup like a bowl or with a detachable handle. The detachable handle is made of titanium to balance the cup. Like the cup, the finish is bead blasted to maximally enhance the shading of the form. It can be used as a handle when the cup is placed over an open fire, and the handle can be securely fixed to the cup by tightening the originally designed ornament screw so that you can safely your meal even when eating hot soup for example. Moreover, you can find it easy to store and compact when carrying the detachable handle. OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: For general consumers, Consumers are satisfied not only by the design of the product itself, but by empathizing with the process and story of how the product was made. I’ve tried to approach the users with such process and story in my design. In Japan, the demand for outdoor recreation activities to get good air circulation such as camping has been increasing due to the global outbreak of the new coronavirus. Thanks to a special experience in the outdoor activities, you can be very relaxing, relieve stress, have memories with family, and get various precious moments. I hope the outdoor activities boom will not end up as a short-lived trend or consumption, and it will build a foundation for everyone to consider as a culture. For these leisure activities, my goal is to create premium products that will be popular for a long time and not be easily bored and thrown away. PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: This cup was launched by sunsetclimax in May 2021. |
PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The cup is 100% made in Japan, and is produced with care at a factory in Tokyo, one by one. It is made of stainless steel 304 with excellent anti-corrosion and is formed into a beautiful shape by a metal spinning process. The finish is bead blasted to maximally enhance the shading of the form. An elegant brand logo is designed on the bottom. You can use the cup like a bowl or with a detachable handle. The rim of the cup is shaped to hold the handle and to maintain the strength of the cup itself. The detachable handle is made of titanium to balance the cup. The material is cut out by laser cutting, and the product is completed by combining two precisely bent parts. Like the cup, the finish is bead blasted to maximally enhance the shading of the form. It can be used as a handle when the cup is placed over an open fire, and the handle can be securely fixed to the cup by tightening the originally designed ornament screw so that you can safely your meal even when eating hot soup for example. Simple and beautiful shaped Stainless cup. Each piece is handmade meticulously, which makes food in the cup look so gorgeous. Original detachable handle is very unique so that it tickles the heart of guys who have playfulness. Once they try the mechanical design of handle, they can not help smiling. Having took over the skill to produce the sunsetclimax original metal cup, we have to carry it over to the next generation. CHALLENGE: Firstly, it took us a much time to find a factory in the town that would help produce our products. After carefully sharing our brand story with them, we were able to find craftsmen and factories that were inspired by our vision and accepted our deal to start manufacturing. It took a lot of time to design the joint between the detachable handle and the cup. We discussed about the shape with many craftsmen and considered to make the samples.
